Art Deco Danish L Hjorth open work mountain goat bowl c1930 |
The interesting piece is in very good condition.
The bowl has a pierced design of mountain goats and flowering plants. The piece has a white glaze which thins over the high spots of relief and pools in the low places creating a pleasing effect. The clay base is orange in colour. The base is marked L Hjorth Danmark. There is no stag mark indicating the piece is an earlier make from this famous Danish pottery on the Isle of Bornholm. There is no pattern number impressed.
The piece can be seen in the 1935 catalogue on page 12 of the PDF below, numbered 718.
Hjorth Bornholm pottery
There is no damage to the piece. There are no chips or cracks. There is no crazing. There are some faint scuff marks to the inside base from use. There are a two very small spots to the bottom rim where the glaze has not adhered to the clay base during the firing process. One of these is shown.
The bowl is 200mm across x 90mm tall. It weighs 1 kilo.
For North American users a handy guide is 25mm or 2.5cm is a little less than 1 inch, so 100mm or 10cm is just less than 4 inches.
Please note this item is original and not a copy or modern day reproduction.
