Art Deco Evald Nieslen No 6 knife 2

This lovely knife is in very good condition.

It is marked to the front with the signature EN for Evald Nielsen a famous Danish silver smith. It also has No 6 for the design and 830 for the silver assay. The blade is marked Evald Nielsen Kobenhaven and Raadvad Rustfri. It would date to 1925 when this pattern was designed.

Nielsen also designed for Georg Jensen. Evald Nielsen was apprenticed to the Copenhagen goldsmith, A. Fleron in 1893 to make flatware, but became a chaser and engraver. In 1903 he was awarded a travel grant and became a journeyman, travelling to Germany, and later Paris. His work became immensely popular in Norway, Denmark and Sweden and is considered equal to that of Georg Jensen. Today, his work is highly sought after for its lovely, well conceived lines and style.

The knife has been used and has some very fine scratches. The blade also has some scratches as shown and has some sharpening marks to the edges. There is a very small nick to the edge of the handle as shown.

The knife is 183mm long. The handle is 85mm long.

For North American users a handy guide is 25mm or 2.5cm is a little less than 1 inch, so 100mm or 10cm is just less than 4 inches.

Please note this is a genuine item and not a reproduction.
