A made in Japan ceramic dish, decoratively embossed with celery stalks & foliage either end from the 1930's era. One places fresh celery stalks in the plate for serving at table. This is an old piece & originally designed for the export/tourist market for sure. The plate is crazed both sides, medium discolouration to most of the top & heavier within the crazing underneath. This can be seen clearly in the photos above. Red felt pen adheres to the centre base ~ "Isobel" & "Made in Japan" in faint black capital letters at one end. There are several chips to the underbase rim, a large at the end & a smaller one on the side. No chips or cracks to the upper surface which holds it's green glossy glaze nicely, as does the base & the piece is sound when rapped with the knuckles. A thickly built plate of medium/average quality, nicely made & a delightful piece despite the age flaws ~ I dare say this is most likely a scarce piece.
