Carved from a single slab of Australian red cedar is this beautiful- and quintessentially Australian wooden frame. Currently mounted with a mirror- whilst the frames uses would extend of course to framing photos or artwork. The carving has a distinctively ‘folksy’ nature and the overlapping of the leaves into the image opening is a charming feature indeed. Obtaining big hunks of cedar like this became increasingly difficult from the turn of last century- and I would date the frame ca 1950s at the latest. No makers marks I can find. Brass fixtures at back do show some age- whilst I expect the cut mirror to be a replacement. Condition is excellent as you see- no breaks- chipping or cracks. Frame has a glossy varnish which has protected this lovely timber and highlights its depth of colour and figural grain wonderfully.
A charming Australian made piece for any interior setting from bathroom to bedroom to living areas.
