D H (DARBY) MUNRO

1913-1966

Darby Munro was one of Australia's all-time great jockeys. His spectactular racing career included winning rides in three Melbourne Cups, three Sydney Cups and on Brisbane Cup. At the 1940 Randwick Easter Carnival in Sydney, he rode a record nine winners. After retiring from rising Munro became a successful race horse trainer.

VICTOR TRUMPER

1877-1915

Victor Trumper scored 43 centures in a First Class cricket career from 1894 to 1914. His highest Test score was 214 against South Africa in the 1910-11 Test series. During the 1914 tour of New Zealand Trumper, in partnership with A. Sims, created an eight wicket partnership score of 433; a record which still stands.

SIR NORMAN BROOKS

1877-1968

Norman (later Sir Norman) Brookes was Australia's first world class tennis player. In 1907 he became the first non-Briton to win the Wimbledon Men's Singles Championship. In the same year, he partnered Anthony Wilding of New Zealand in the first Australasian Davis Cup victory. During his active tennis career Norman Brookes captained six winning Davis Cup teams.

WALTER LINDRUM

1898-1960

Walter Lindrum was world professional billiards champion from 1932 until he retired undefeated in 1950. In 1932 he made an official break of 4137 in 2 hours 55 minutes against Joe Davis at Thurston's in England. Lindrum devoted much of his later years to charity, raising $6 million from exhibition games. He was awarded the OBE in 1958.
