I have sold many phones on eBay and now am back doing so. This time however, the phones are fully functioning. It has taken a year to develop, test, perfect and manufacture the modules that I assemble by hand, to bring them back to life. I had help from a technical expert who was meticulous with details and quality, in order to last another 50 years and be durable. I am also including a 1 year full membership to Telephone Collectors International. A great value and fun stuff to read about, to keep up with old phone stuff! This phone is completely original with the exception an added bell so it will ring. Everything else about the phone is original. In fact, if it wasn't, the coin module would not work. Nothing was drilled through, moved or replaced. The coin module is hidden behind the coin bucket out of sight where 6 wires run up to a central hub, then connect to the network, the coin controller and then the bell. Quite simple and non intrusive to not ruin the phone. The black rectangle in the pictures with the wires sticking up is the module. It is encased in epoxy for durability and protection. The other picture shows it in place behind the coin bucket. The hub it plugs into has a small green LED light to let you know it is plugged in and functioning You have to deposit a coin to dial out, exactly as it says on the dialing instructions. WOW! Watch these two short video clips to see it actually work...........
Here is what it does.......... You deposit a dime, or two nickels, then dial your #. 1. If no one answers, you changed your mind or you just forgot the # you were dialing, when you hang up your deposit will be returned. 2. If someone answers, you leave a message on a machine, and after you are done talking, when you hang up your deposit is collected. 3. If you just hang on the line and are fumbling for the # to dial in your pocket, and you never dial a #, .... the recorded operator will come on the line to ask if you would please hang up and try again later...............................your deposit is returned. All of this happens seamlessly and makes that great "CLUNK" sound. You DO NOT need a coin to answer, or pick up when it is in the ring segment! NOBODY ON eBAY OR OTHERWISE, HAS A COIN CONTROLLER THAT IS AS SMALL AND HIDDEN, OR FULLY FEATURED.......HIDDEN INSIDE THE PHONE , WITHOUT CHANGING OR HACKING SOMETHING, AS THIS! NO ONE!! See this clip...........
This phone was taken out of service in the mid 1960's from the Los Angeles basin. It makes all of the dings and gong sounds you expect when you deposit the coins, The reception and transmission is crystal clear with a vintage feel. Although the bell is not original to any AE payphone inside the case, I like to put them in as long as it is not intrusive, or I have to replace something to get it in there. It is an AE ringer and works perfectly and is loud, but not obnoxious. If you are a baby boomer, you know what I am talking about. The dial has been calibrated and lightly lubricated by a telephone professional who is a friend to all in the telephone collectors world, so you know it's right! What is included........... 1. It comes with the keys to the upper housing and the vault door. 2. An 8 foot long modular cord that can easily be replaced later should it become damaged or you would like to change the colour of it. 3. A 24 volt wall wart, a modular connection hub and another 8 feet of modular phone line. 4. Hardware to mount the phone onto drywall, wood and 2 felt pads if you choose a counter or table top display. 5. Full instructions with warranty. It is a truly complete, ready to plug in and work phone, right out of the box for many years to come. Due to ebay policies, I am not able to list my site here. If you are interested in any other colour or a Western Electric, email me, and I will send you the link to my site. There you will find many pictures and it explains the process that these phones go through to come back to life and be in service for another 100 years. It will also answer many more of those questions you may have, to make you more comfortable in this transaction. If you have an original payphone, and would like to add the coin control feature, I have an external unit that I have developed and works great. It is currently on eBay in my other listing. Take a look and that may work better for you. Or, maybe you know someone who is into old payphones, let them know. I also currently have a large assortment of different colour payphones available ready for immediate shipping. All black to the original Art Deco colours from 1957, with and without the coin controllers in them. Just email me for what I do have at rod@threeslotpayphone.com The phone is expertly packed so you receive the phone in the condition it left here and shipped the day after I receive payment, for actual cost and no garbage fees added.
