The whole point of the Benefit Lip Plumper is that it gives you the base for your lipstick or lip gloss and indeed even your lip liner, whilst filling in those lines and creases which make the lips look a little shrivelled and thus smaller.
If you notice the product is in fact a skin shade tone, which if you place and blend onto your lips, actually somewhat hides your natural lip line. This then gives you the opportunity to apply lipstick or lip-liner slightly outside of your usual lip line, therefore giving the appearance of bigger lips. This is the actual purpose of the product and the description a trained Benefit consultant will give to you. You will also find that once on, if you press your lips together, there is a strange springy feeling which shows it is doing something!
The product itself is creamy and easy to use. A little goes a long way and if you put too much on it doesn't work as well (lipstick colour will be affected, it will crease and wear off quicker). The scent is the usual ‘make up’ sort of smell, but you can barely even smell it and it leaves no taste on your tongue if you accidentally lick your lips on application. Nor does it come off if you do so.
For the effect of full lips, you’ll need a natural lip coloured lip liner (it makes the plump look more realistic) and whatever lipstick you desire. After applying the Lip Plump, draw your desired lip line with the lip liner – don’t be too over indulgent. Lightly fill in the lips with the same colour before applying lipstick. And voila fuller looking lips.
I use this product myself, and I honestly have no complaints other than the fact I wish it could be a little cheaper! I also think foundation works just as well as this, but it wears off quicker and makes your lips too pale to be conceivable!
I can understand why people would be disappointed by the product, seeing as it does say Lip Plump and perhaps the name is a little misleading. Yet If I am to be honest, make up is best bought with a consultant around to explain how to apply the product and what to expect from it, and to try it out on yourself beforehand. That way there will be no disappointments. This is especially important when you are spending a lot of money on a product too!
