ARTIST'S STATEMENT Australian backyards are hosts to many amazing native and introduced bird species. I am lucky enough to have a few natives that frequent my yard and neighbourhood. This image is from a series of paintings which explores species observed at or near my home in the Hunter Valley on the eastern coast of Australia. Unlike many bird illustrations the characters portrayed in these paintings have been presented within a scene. Adding to the personal nature of the image and to its story telling capabilities, the viewer is invited to become an un-intrusive part of the birds environment. This is a portrait of two eastern rosellas (Platycercus eximius) at the entrance to a hollowed tree. Eastern rosellas are a protected Australian parrot measuring about 30cm whose brightly coloured patterns make them easily identifiable. The females are slightly smaller and their colour a little duller than the males. They nest in hollow trees, stumps and fence posts. Rosellas were made a well known bird from their image being used as a consumer product logo when I was a child. They are not often seen near my home but on occasions we have the pleasure of observing them among the foliage of the trees. ORIGINAL ARTIST PRINTS Printed on high quality 240gm 100% cotton, acid-free, archival, fine art paper. A3 size (approx 12 x 16.5 inch). These prints are the artwork's original physical form, NOT reproductions. This is an original art work which was created digitally, through virtual painting by hand with an electronic pen on a digital drawing tablet, directly with a computer. The process of creating an art image digitally restricts the physical presentation of the artwork to printed form. So like wood blocks, etchings, screen printing and photography, it is not possible to have any other physical representation. Each print comes with a signed certificate of Authenticity directly from the artist along with a written artist statement about the image that you are purchasing, a brief artist bio and an information sheet about how to care for and preserve art on paper. MATERIAL QUALITY Includes a signed certificate of authenticity which includes an artist statement. Posted flat, sandwiched between thick cardboard so that it will NOT be rolled or creased. ARTIST QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE Di holds an Art Certificate (Tafe College 2 years full time) & a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts (University 3 years full time) and has been a practicing artist for 18 years. She has won numerous international art contests. Her former employment includes Artist-In-Residence and Private Art Tutor for a community center and an Art Teacher for a children's resource unit.
