Title: "Galah Gathering"
Printed on high quality 240gm 100% cotton, acid-free, archival, fine art paper. A3 size (approx 12 x 16.5 inch). ARTIST'S STATEMENT Australian backyards are hosts to many amazing native and introduced bird species. I am lucky enough to have a few natives that frequent my yard and neighbourhood. This image is from a series of paintings which explores species observed at or near my home in the Hunter Valley on the eastern coast of Australia. Unlike many bird illustrations the characters portrayed in these paintings have been presented within a scene. Adding to the personal nature of the image and to its story telling capabilities, the viewer is invited to become an un-intrusive part of the birds environment. This is a scene of Galahs, (Scientific name: Eolophus roseicapillus), where the morning sunlight illuminates the foliage below and signals the start to another glorious day. Galahs are easy to identify because of their colouring and they are one of the most common and widespread cockatoos in Australia. The large trees near my home often host a small handful of these birds, and often they will be seen rummaging through grass in search of a feed. Galahs are usually considered as exhibiting bold and loud behaviour and therefore to be referred to as a "Galah" in Australian slang suggests that your behaviour is perceived as that of a 'fool' or 'idiot'. ORIGINAL ARTIST PRINTS These prints are the artwork's original physical form, NOT reproductions. This is an original art work which was created digitally, through virtual painting by hand with an electronic pen on a digital drawing tablet, directly onto a computer. ARTIST QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE Di holds an Art Certificate (Tafe College 2 years full time) & a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts (University 3 years full time) and has been a practicing artist for 18 years. She has won numerous international art contests. Her former employment includes Artist-In-Residence and Private Art Tutor for a community center and an Art Teacher for a children's resource unit.
