Title: "Lorikeet Larrikins "
Printed on high quality 240gm 100% cotton, acid-free, archival, fine art paper. A3 size (approx 12 x 16.5 inch). ARTIST'S STATEMENT Australian backyards are hosts to many amazing native and introduced bird species. I am lucky enough to have a few natives that frequent my yard and neighbourhood. This image is from a series of paintings which explores species observed at or near my home in the Hunter Valley on the eastern coast of Australia. Unlike many bird illustrations the characters portrayed in these paintings have been presented within a scene. Adding to the personal nature of the image and to its story telling capabilities, the viewer is invited to become an un-intrusive part of the birds environment. With their multi-coloured plumage responsible for their most common name, the flashing colours of rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus) make identifying the bird unmistakable. The Rainbow Lory is also known as Blue-bellied lorikeet, Blue Mountains parrot, Swainson’s lorikeet and Coconut Lory. These are nomadic birds with a brush tipped tongue that allows them to gather nectar from flowers as well as eating fruits and buds. Often so intent on feeding that you can approach them quite closely. ORIGINAL ARTIST PRINTS These prints are the artwork's original physical form, NOT reproductions. This is an original art work which was created digitally, through virtual painting by hand with an electronic pen on a digital drawing tablet, directly onto a computer. The process of creating an art image digitally restricts the physical presentation of the artwork to printed form. So like wood blocks, etchings, screen printing and photography, it is not possible to have any other physical representation. Each print comes with a signed certificate of Authenticity directly from the artist along with a written artist statement about the image that you are purchasing. ARTIST QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE Di holds an Art Certificate (Tafe College 2 years full time) & a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts (University 3 years full time) and has been a practicing artist for 18 years. She has won numerous international art contests. Her former employment includes Artist-In-Residence and Private Art Tutor for a community center and an Art Teacher for a children's resource unit.
