EMI Records (07243-582997 0-0) -- Made In The EU, 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shipping is $2.00 within Canada, $4.00 to the United States, and $7.00 Rest of World. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Limited-edition European release features special packaging (a hardback book with gold embossment) and 4 live bonus VIDEO versions of four songs from the album. Also... "Me, White Noise" – 6:48 (hidden track which requires manual rewind) from eeggs.com: OK, first let me point out that this doesn't work on all CD players (i.e. computers, some portable stereos), but here we go anyway... 1) Place album in CD player 2) Press play on track one and then... 3) Rewind. If you go far enough back you will be able to hear the track 'Me White Noise' featuring Phil Daniels, who provided the voice on Parklife. (I tried this on my CD player and it did rewind the required amount of time, but there was no audio playback - perhaps it will work on yours....) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Metacritic.com: The veteran Britpop outfit's first new album in four years is the result of tumultuous recording sessions in Morocco with producer Fatboy Slim, which saw a growing dispute between co-founders Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon culminate in Coxon's departure from the band. Fatboy Slim only wound up producing two tracks, with William Orbit handling some of the others. Rollinstone.com: Brit-poppers Blur have lost their guitarist, and they're all the better for it. Former axman Graham Coxon plays only on the album's closing track, "Battery in Your Leg," one of several yearning, sorrowful songs on Think Tank, an album so disjointed that it seems to artfully fall apart as it plays. Taking Coxon's place is just space, and experimentation -- Blur use their bass guitar as a lead instrument, employ simple but odd bits of guitar from frontman (and erstwhile Gorillaz voice) Damon Albarn and toss in delicate or brash keyboards. Their penchant for pillaging rock's past has vanished with Coxon, but their melodic faculties remain, and crafty tunes complement the sonic decay. There are flashes of punk and fresh hints of world music, as Andalusian string players adorn the gorgeously mournful single "Out of Time." The old Blur have died, but the new, more open Blur come startlingly alive. BARRY WALTERS (Posted: Apr 22, 2003) |
