1 skein of approx 200 grams and approximately 120 to 130 metres in length.
This yarn is made from the loom waste left over from the sari making process. Banana yarns have been used in the Far East for many centuries, and it is soft and lustrous, easily rivalling and even surpassing silk in its beauty and strength, without harming a living creature.
Banana silk yarns are also smoother and less hairy than most sari yarns; but the colours are as bright and eye-catching as ever, so they make an excellent substitute. While modern dyes are used, it is safest to assume the colours are not colour-fast, therefore careful washing in cool water by hand, with a gentle rinse, is recommended. Do not wring out or spin and dry flat in the shade. Banana silk yarn can stretch slightly when wet, just like cotton and other vegetable based yarns.
Ideal for highlights in knitting and weaving, as a surface embellishment for felters and papermakers, as part of woven, knitted or crocheted jewellery; in short, any where that regular yarn can be used. They can be used to create original hair for art dolls. Thay can also be plied with wool to create your own art or designer yarns.
If buying more than 1 skein, please wait for me to invoice you with the correct postage amount, as 1 calculate by weight, not number of items, and you could be overcharged.
These skeins are produced by cottage industries in Nepal, where the women workers are paid a fair wage for their labour and so contribute to the economic welfare of their families.
You may notice a slight smell to this yarn, which disappears once aired. This is in the nature of recycled products and is not a fault.
