2008 Beijing Olympic Games Coin and Stamp PNC
Double Postmark
Two Australian postmarks were released as part of the Beijing Olympic Games.
The first postmark was released 24 April 2008 to coincide with the arrival of the Beijing Olympic torch in Canberra. It includes the the Rings Logo and worded Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay. This postmark has now been withdrawn.
The second postmark Loch Sport VIC, 3851 is standard with the official PNC and includes an image of the traditional Dragon.
What makes this australia post PNC special is that an extra 50c Beijing stamp has been added and cancelled with the Torch Relay Postmark. It is valuable in that the Torch Relay Postmark was withdrawn before the Beijing stamp was released making this PNC erroneous and extremely rare.
The reverse design on the coin depicts the AOC's official Olympic "Flag and Rings logo", the Boxing Kangaroo and an image of a traditional Chinese dragon.
The reverse incorporates the inscription AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC TEAM 8-8-08, and the Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark.
