The Book of Pleasure (Self-Love): The Psychology of Ecstasy by Austin Osman Spare, was originally published in 1913. It is considered to be Spare's most important work, and deals extensively with his magical techniques of sigilisation, his development of the Alphabet of Desire and his use of the Death Posture, and much more. This book also contains some of Spare's finest drawings, illustrations and magical stele, and includes numerous examples of his sigils, as well as showing how he went about constructing his sigils, and using them in magical practice. 

This is a very rare limited edition of this book, hardbound in a very similar way to the original First Edition, with white titling on black cloth covers, and was republished in 1975, by 93 Publishing, in a new format and with an Introduction by Kenneth Grant. This is a large book, measuring 15" x 10", doing full justice to Spare's artworks. It should also be noted that the reproduced artworks, illustrations, sigils & text, are of a much higher quality, and have much finer detail, tones and shades, than what you will see in most later reproductions of this book, including the various collections of Spares work (eg The Collected Works of Austin Osman Spare, and From the Inferno To Zos series). This book is in very good condition, with clean bright pages, free of any marking, or soiling. The dust jacket is also in very good condition, with just some very minor shelf wear, a few minute edge tears and some very slight rippling on the back of the cover. Do not miss out on this opportunity to own this rare, and most important, talismanic work by Spare.
