Denon AVC-A1SR

Please note: This item is now also for sale on a 10-day AUCTION. Please see item: 220520814214

It will sell on the Auction unless someone offers me this "Buy it now" price - thanks

For Sale:  Brand NEW!

 DENON AVC A1SR Gold Finish

 7.1 Channel Reference Power Amplifier/Receiver

Pictured here with the  New Denon DVD-A11 that I am also selling SEPARATELY. Please see my other "items for sale" for the separate ads for the DVD-A11 and also a great NEW DLP Projector (I am selling all for the same reason)

Please note: for this auction you are bidding on and will win just the AVC-A1SR. The DVD-A11 is for sale separately but these two items are PERFECTLY matched for each other so I highly recommend that you consider buying both to work synergistically together for premium quality sound! See below for comprehensive specs/reviews for the AVC-A1SR Amplifier.

The DVD-A11 is also Brand NEW and is the best upscaling DVD player (1080i with DVI to HDMI connectivity) that is available on the market. Even if you have another Blu-ray player that "upscales", this DENON DVD player will produce a better picture from your DVDs because Blu-ray and DVD are separate technologies and have separate readers so if you want to make the most of your existing DVD library, this is the best player available! It also plays Super-Audio CDs and any other type of music possible with DENON quality, power, clarity and precision! They are a combination that was made to work together with DENON LINK.

This AVC-A1SR Surround Amplifier is probably one of the best components ever made and has won numerous awards.

REASON FOR SELLING:

I originally bought this a while ago when I had a great job and was making lots of money. I kept it still sealed new in the packaging while I took my time and planned and organised my entire home theatre. I then lost my job soon after and had to move to a smaller apartment where I can`t easily use such a powerful receiver/amp etc. I also had to sell many other items due to recent financial hardship. My loss can be your gain. Take advantage of this great offer and you can get a

BRAND NEW amazing, high-end, audiophile-grade Receiver/Amplifier at a bargain price!

All items are NEW (not reconditioned as some eBay items are that claim to be "new") these have never been used and have never been out of the box. You can see that all the cables and pieces are in still in sealed packets etc. All are PERFECT!

Contact me with any questions - thanks for your interest!

I will consider any offers now but if I am desperate to sell quickly (in a few weeks time) then I might reduce the price or put all 3 items on 3 separate 10-day auctions and I will just take whatever the highest bid is! Some real bargains might be possible for quality NEW items then BUT if you`re really interested you should submit an offer now just in case it sells quickly and you miss the opportunity! Please add me to your favourite sellers list and select the option to automatically inform you when I have any new items for sale. Thanks for your interest.

Please also watch my "other items for sale" for

1) a Brand NEW DENON DVD-A11 Universal DVD/SuperAudioCD player. This has a DVI to HDMI compatible output with 1080i High Definition upscaling and I bought it as the best player on the market (to match this AVC-A1SR)            These two DENON components have won many awards and are ideally suited due to their  IEEE1394 and Denon Link connectivity. They are both in a beautiful Gold finish. They are audiophile/reference-grade components. They have never been used. The DVD A11 is NEW in Perfect condition.

2) I am also still selling a Sharp XV Z10000 DLP PROJECTOR that is Brand NEW! for the same reason. It was rated as the best Projector in the $10 000 to $15 000 price range and has a High Definition DVI/HDMI input, great contrast, colours and clarity etc

PLEASE - only serious bidders for all items - if you bid on anything please have all the funds ready for immediate payment so the sale can proceed smoothly thanks. All 3 auctions are separate and for one item each thanks.

I bought the Projector and the DENON audio to work synergistically together with high-end speakers (thats all you need for a really impressive Home Theatre) The Amp has a universal learning touch-screen remote and multi-zone capability for extra rooms.

I am selling all NEW for the same reason - I had a good job and ordered these items and was trying to put together a premium quality home theatre when I lost my job and had to move to a smaller place and live on a tight budget. I had not bought speakers yet but I was intending to get some decent Bowers & Wilkins etc. I am still looking for work and have to sell all desperately now so someone out there is going to get some AMAZING NEW equipment at a great bargain price!  You would do well to buy the SHARP projector and the DENON audio to work as an amazing set to synergistically deliver high-end AV performance!

Thanks and GOOD LUCK bidding!

==============================================================================================================================================

PLEASE NOTE: If you want to pay by PayPal then you, the buyer, must add on 2.5% to the total price before you send the money through Paypal. Paypal only benefits the buyer and I refuse to pay their high fees on my end. If you do not add 2.5% to the winning bid and you send just the exact winning bid amount through PayPal then I will not send you the item until you send the additional 2.5% extra PayPal fee as well thanks

Or you are welcome to pay into my bank account. Email me for the account details. Or you can pay on pick-up with cash or bank cheque thanks

Courier is possible but buyer to arrange please. I am willing to carefully wrap existing packaging in bubblewrap and/or additional outer box to courier but the buyer is please to get quotes and arrange any courier thanks. (from Bondi in Syndey - postcode 2026) Please contact me with any questions

I will try to upload actual photos of the box soon but anyone is welcome to come and inspect it in Bondi, Sydney anytime. I cannot demo it because it is NEW and still in all its packaging etc. I am happy to come to the winners home (anywhere within one hours drive from Sydney) to deliver and assist with set-up etc. I guarantee you will be very impressed with the performance and quality !===============================================================================================================================================

DENON AVC A1SR for sale:

Perfect for any 7.1 High Definition Digital output from Blu-Ray, DVD, SuperAudioCD,

Lossless AAC iPod/DRM-grade MP3/WMA Players, Sonos, Olive Media, Sooloos etc. This will enhance and amplify any sound source and can handle any quality speakers easily without the need for any additional power amps etc. This product was first released and tested on the best Bowers & Wilkins 800-series speakers and received rave reviews from a prominent AV magazine (see later in this ad)

This auction is for the Brand NEW  AVC-A1SR Amp ONLY. I have another auction for the DVDA11

These two flagship DENON components are made for each other (incorporating DENON-LINK technology) and they synergistically deliver

high-end audiophile-grade reference sound. They are available separately and can easily operate as excellent components individually.

It represents the pinnacle of DENON`s development in audio performance.

If you are considering this and you already have an output source, I strongly suggest also considering buying the DENON DVD A11 that I am also selling as it is designed as a premium DVD/CD/Super Audio CD player that can communicate with the AVCA1SR Amp/Receiver through DENON`s proprietary DENON LINK  as well as other Optical/Firewire/ieee etc connectivity. For the A11 I suggest using a High Definition 1080 Projector that has DVI to HDMI connectivity. DVI is the premium High Definition input for high-end projectors (Like a Sharp XVZ 10 000 DLP) that connects to HDMI through a supplied adaptor.

Please email: akon3@hotmail.com if you have any questions. It is quite heavy (30kgs) so I suggest pick-up from Bondi and bank cheque please but we can come to another suitable arrangement if necessary. I can deliver within an hours drive of Syndey.

Courier and Paypal  are fine thanks (but see my note). Thanks for your interest and good luck bidding!

I have tried to list some of the specs and reviews but there are many on the net

Denon AVC-A1SR 7-Channel Amplifier

The Most Advanced Digital Audio Technologies deliver the highest processing power ever offered in any AV component. The AVC-A1SR incorporates two of the new Analog Devices Hammerhead SHARC 32-bit processors (twice as powerful as their predecessors) and no less than 16 Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192kHz audio DACs (the worlds best audio DACs) to deliver unprecedented surround performance. For ultimate audio quality when listening to stereo audio sources, the amplifier can reconfigure the DACs to provide eight-DAC dual-differential operation, with four DACs per audio channel, and shut off all unnecessary circuitry to preserve maximum sonic purity.

“A new era for digital connections is formed with the introduction of the DENON LINK technology, which enables high-speed, high-grade,

multi-channel digital signal transmission. The first products to incorporate the new DENON LINK technology are the AVC-A1SR and the DVD-A11

THX Ultra-2 Certified 7-channel High Power Amp
Front .................. 170 W + 170 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05 % THD)
Center................ 170 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05 % THD)
Surround............ 170 W + 170 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05 % THD)
Surround back ... 170 W + 170 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05 % THD)
The AVC-A1SR features an equal power 7-channel amplifier section, with
identical amplifier design on all 7 channels. The Front (L/R), Center, and
Surround (L/R) channels are driven by 170 watts of power each, and the two
Surround Back channels, used for 6.1-channel DTS-ES and THX Surround
EX sources, are also each powered with 170 watts (all channels rated into
8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz).
High current, low impedance drive-capable discrete power transistors are
used for each channel, and the high power output of 170 watts per channel
(into 8 ohms) ensures that the speakers are driven with ample foundation to
reproduce movie and music soundtracks with superb fidelity and widest
dynamic range.
The AVC-A1SR’s power section is configured with a 1200VA high current
toroidal transformer and large high capacity electrolytic capacitors optimized
for audio use to deliver a constantly stable, clean supply of power.
The AVC-A1SR proudly bears the THX Ultra-2 logo, certifying that it satisfies the
strict standards of Lucasfilm, Inc., governing performance, features, sound
quality, power, stability into low impedance speaker loads (3.2 ohms and higher)
and ease of operation.
In addition, THX 5.1 and 4.0 post-processing enhancements enrich the motion
picture soundtrack reproduction, providing timbre matching, re-equalization,
precision time delay adjustments, dynamic decorrelation and superior bass
management.
The Chassis construction focused on high-quality pure audio
By positioning the power transformer at the center of the unit, the AVC-A1SR
is equipped with a chassis construction in which unwanted vibrations are suppressed
and excess vented heat is minimized. The digital circuits have been placed in the
lower center of the unit and are completely shielded in their own enclosure, and the
power amp circuits are located on the left and right sides. In addition, the analog
circuitry has been isolated from the video circuitry to completely eliminate any
mutual interference. The total chassis design preserves the purity of the audio signal
from input to output to give your home theater a clean yet powerful sound, alive
with all the details of the original recording.
It has DDSC-Digital, for High-quality Sound Reproduction
DDSC-Digital is a circuit configuration specially designed by DENON in which
all the elements of the surround processor are optimized by the use of selected
high performance discrete elements, including separate A/D and D/A conversion,
with sophisticated dual DSP surround decoding.
1. 24 bit, 96 kHz A/D Converters
The AVC-A1SR uses highly accurate 24 bit, 96 kHz A/D converters to handle
analog to digital conversion. Since the converted digital signals are at
extremely high resolution, the resulting sound quality is far more faithful to
the original source than with conventional designs.
2. Digital Interface Receiver Supporting 24 bit, 192 kHz Signals
The AVC-A1SR includes a Digital Interface Receiver (DIR) that distinguishes
various types of digital input signals, including 24/192 and 24/96 stereo
PCM signals, performs the appropriate signal processing, and transmits the
information to the DSP block.
3. Analog Devices SHARC Dual 32-bit Floating Point DSPs
Featuring the latest Analog Devices 32 bit floating point SHARC DSP
devices, the AVC-A1SR provides superb resolution and widest dynamic
range of Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM audio signals.
4. 24 bit, 192 kHz All-channels Differential-mode D/A Conversion
For optimum fidelity and transparency, the AVC-A1SR features the latest
Analog Devices high resolution AD-1853 24 bit, 192 kHz DACs, in 16-DAC
differential configuration (2 DAC channels per each audio channel).
DENON’s latest surround technology faithfully recreates the surround
sound produced at the dubbing stage.
1. DTS (Digital Theater System)
1-1) Featuring the World’s First DTS-ES Extended Surround
7.1 Discrete & DTS-ES 7.1 Matrix Decoding
The AVC-A1SR is the world’s first AV component that is equipped with
the
DTS-ES (true discrete) 7.1 decoder, developed by DTS to provide dramatically

improved surround sound panoramic reproduction and

superior surround sound localization.

AVC-A1SR
A/V Surround Amplifier
N E W M O D E L I N F O R M A T I O N
Like DTS 5.1-channel sound, the sound from the Surround Back channel of
DTS-ES is also provided in a discrete configuration. The addition of a
Surround Back channel to the 7.1-channel sound enables more faithful
reproduction of the sound originally designed by film and music producers.
When a 7.1-channel DTS-ES discrete recording is played, the AVC-A1SR
automatically detects the signal and plays the source in 7.1 discrete mode.
1-2) Supports DTS-ES Extended Surround Matrix 7.1
ES Matrix processing, developed by DTS, produces the effect of 7.1-channel
sound by extracting a Surround Back signal from the Surround Left and
Surround Right channels, compatible with the growing number of movies
released on Blu-ray and DVD with DTS-ES encoding. Unlike other decoders which use
generic “logic” decoding to extract the sixth surround back channel, the
AVC-A1SR is the world’s first A/V component that features DTS 7.1 decoding
combined with the DTS-developed matrix algorithm for optimum

DTS-ES 7.1 matrix decoding.
1-3) DTS Stereo-To-Surround Decoding
This mode utilizes the DTS matrix encoder to reproduce 2-channel analog and
PCM recordings through 7.1 channels. (Provided in 2 modes: Music/Cinema)
2. THX Surround EX Decoding
3. Dolby Digital Decoding
in Pure Direct Mode, to Deliver Pure Audio Quality
In addition to surround sound playback, the AVC-A1SR lets you enjoy pure 2-channel
stereo sound as well through its Pure Direct mode. In Pure Direct mode, power to the
video circuitry and the front panel display is turned off, and during analog input,
power to the digital circuitry is also automatically turned off. Furthermore, during 2-channel
linear PCM input, the D/A converter section is re-configured to 8 DAC dual-differential
operation (4 DAC channels for each audio channel) to provide optimum D/A conversion
of 2-channel PCM sound sources, such as CD with the highest transparency and
widest dynamic range.

AL 24 Processing
The AVC-A1SR includes DENON’s renowned 24 bit ALPHA processing technology
that reproduces digital signals in a waveform with the smoothness of analog signals.
This technology thoroughly suppresses annoying quantization distortion and faithfully
reproduces the delicate musical details of low-level signals. AL 24 processing
works in 2-channel Stereo, Direct, Pure Direct modes.
Digital-to-Analog Recording
The AVC-A1SR lets you make analog recordings of digital signal sources.

RS-232C Port

The AVC-A1SR is
THX-Ultra 2 certified, which is
the highest quality certificate
awarded by George Lucas’ crew
at THX. The list of compatible
formats reads like a Who’s Who
and includes DTS ES, Dolby
Digital EX and a host of THX
modes. The AVC-A1SR is also the
only true 7.1-channel amplifier
in this test, and delivers a massive
170W to each speaker.
The AVC-A1SR offers two
multi-zone outputs – which
means that the amplifier can
simultaneously power two
systems based in different rooms.
The amp also provides two sets of
7.1 analogue inputs, allowing
you to hook up both a DVD-A
and SACD player.

The speed and clarity with which
the AVC-ASR1 amp moves effects
around the soundstage is simply
breathtaking. There's more detail
than with any other amp in this test.
It's no exaggeration to say that
the DVD-A11 and AVC-A1SR are
astonishing products, with the
latter being the best integrated
amp currently on sale.

As it is, this is one hell of a slice
of home cinema heaven. WHC

AV C - A 1 S R Surround Amplifier
T H X U l t r a 2 C e r t i f i e d A / V S u r r o u n d A m p l i f i e r
The AVC-A1SR surround amplifier inherits the critically acclaimed amplifier design characteristics of the AVC-A1SR
while adding Denon's much improved DDSC-Digital sound processor for greater diversity in multi-channel
reproduction of digital and analog signals. The AVC-A1SR's objective is to bring out the maximum performance
potential of all types of sound sources. This model also provides a video conversion function for greater monitor
connection flexibility, the added convenience of variable subwoofer cross-over switching, that will ensure a listening
environment that is as close to ideal as possible. With its support of THX Ultra2 and a wealth of other features, the
AVC-A1SR has become Denon's latest “Surround Reference” A/V amplifier for serious home theater enthusiasts.
■ High-quality Pure Audio Chassis Construction
By positioning the power transformer at the center of the unit, the
AVC-A1SR is equipped with a chassis construction in which unwanted
vibrations are suppressed and excess vented heat is minimized. The digital
circuits have been placed in the lower center of the unit and are completely
shielded in their own enclosure, and the power amp circuits are located
on the left and right sides. In addition, the analog circuitry has been
isolated from the video circuitry to completely eliminate any mutual
interference. The total chassis design preserves the purity of the audio
signal from input to output to give your home theater a clean yet
powerful sound, alive with all the details of the original recording.
■ Wide-Range Play Capability for DVD-Audio or SACD

2. 24-bit, 192-kHz Digital Interface Receiver
The AVC-A1SR employs a total of four 24-bit, 192-kHz digital interface
receivers, one for every two channels, enabling multi-channel digital
input through Denon Digital Link or external digital input to perform at
optimum potential.
3. New SHARC Dual 32-bit Floating Point DSPs
The AVC-A1SR uses a dual configuration of new HammerHead SHARC
21161 32-bit floating point DSPs from Analog Devices.
4. 24-bit, 192-kHz All-channels Differential-mode D/A Conversion
For optimum fidelity and transparency, the AVC-A1SR features the
latest Burr-Brown PCM-1738E high resolution 24-bit, 192 kHz DACs,
in an eight-channel, differential configuration (2-DAC channels per
each audio channel). These DACs satisfy DSD specifications.
■ DENON’s Latest Surround Technology
Faithfully Recreates the Surround
Sound Produced at the Dubbing Stage.
DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 / DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 / DTS NEO:6 / DTS 96/24
Dolby Digital / Dolby Digital EX / Dolby Pro Logic II
THX Surround EX / THX Cinema / THX Ultra2 Cinema / THX MusicMode
■ DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 + THX Post Processing
By adding THX Post Processing to the localized sound and spatial
expression of DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, your listening room is almost
completely transformed into a full-featured cinema.
■ THX Ultra2 Certified
7-channel High Power Amplifier
The AVC-A1SR features an equal power 7-channel amplifier section, with
identical amplifier design on all 7 channels. The Front (L/R), Center, and
Surround (L/R) channels are driven by 225 watts of power each, and the
two Surround Back channels, used for 6.1-channel DTS-ES and DOLBY
DIGITAL EX sources, are also each powered with 225 watts (all channels
rated into 6 ohms).
High current, low impedance drive-capable discrete power transistors are
used for each channel, and the high power output of 225 watts per
channel (into 6 ohms) ensures that the speakers are driven with ample
foundation to reproduce movie
and music soundtracks with
superb fidelity and the widest
dynamic range.
The AVC-A1SR proudly bears the
THX Ultra2 logo, certifying that it
satisfies the newest certification
standards of Lucasfilm Ltd.,
governing performance, features,
sound quality, power, stability into
low-impedance speaker loads, and
ease of operation.
■ DTS NEO:6
DTS NEO:6 lets you enjoy 2-channel analog, PCM, and Dolby Digital
2-channel sources in full 6.1-channel surround sound.
■ DTS 96/24 5.1 Decoding for DVD-Video
High-quality 96-kHz, 24-bit (96/24) sound playback from ordinary DVD-Video
recordings is limited to only two channels and there are also limitations
on the picture. DVD-Video recorded in DTS 96/24, however, allows
high-quality 5.1-channel sound playback in full-quality, full-motion video.
■ Dolby Pro Logic II
With the AVC-A1SR, you can use Dolby Pro Logic II to do more than
just enjoy your 2-channel analog, PCM, and Dolby Digital 2-channel
sources in surround sound ambiance. You can also add the soundfield
effects of THX Post Processing to Dolby Pro Logic II in Movie mode(*2)
to brilliantly enhance the excitement of 2-channel A/V sources.
(*2) On Denon A/V amplifiers, this Movie mode is displayed as “MODE CINEMA”.
■ Dolby Headphone
Since sound from a headphone enters the ears directly, it can cause
fatigue during extended listening sessions. Dolby Headphone replicates
the effects of sound from speakers in a room by localizing the sound
source at the front or the side as though the listener were enjoying
3D sound at a movie theater. Dolby Headphone is effective not only
with Dolby Digital or Dolby Pro Logic but with CD and other 2-channel
sources as well. The AVC-A1SR also lets you record signals encoded
with Dolby Headphone to other recorders so that you can enjoy the
effects of Dolby Headphone with a portable MD player or other
device. (This is possible with both analog and digital recordings.)
■ 5 Channel & 7 Channel Stereo Modes
■ Dual Surround Mode Speaker Selection
■ Adjustable Cross-Over Switching
The AVC-A1SR supports subwoofer cross-over switching with a choice of
5 cross-over frequencies: 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 Hz. This lets you more
accurately match the performance characteristics of the subwoofer to the
main speaker system.
■ DENON Digital Link
High-grade LPCM 24-bit/96-kHz for 6-channel or 24-bit/192-kHz for
2-channel(*3) digital input is possible when the AVC-A1SR is connected via
a shielded twisted pair (STP) cable to a Denon DVD player that supports
Denon Digital Link. Since Denon Digital Link uses low-voltage differential
signaling (LVDS), transfer capabilities of greater than 1.2 Gbps at a
differential voltage of approximately 0.3 Vpp are possible.
(*3) If a 24-bit, 192-kHz sound source is copyright protected, the DVD player may convert the digital output.
■ External Digital Input
For future system expansion, the AVC-A1SR provides external digital
inputs that support multi-channel (6/8-channel PCM) inputs from an
external unit.
Multi-channel digital signal input is possible using a maximum of 4 sets of
coaxial digital inputs.
■ Pure Direct Mode, to Deliver Pure Audio Quality
■ AL24 Processing Plus
■ High-quality Component Video
In/Out Terminals (100-MHz Bandwidth)
■ Accurate Signal Transmission
from the Pre-amplifier Section
Parts suitable for high attenuation have been strictly selected for use in
the volume circuit that controls the signal levels of all eight channels.
Since a differential D/A configuration has also been adopted for each
channel, the widest possible dynamic range is secured with mutual
interference effectively suppressed across the entire frequency range.
The pre-amp's gain is varied to match the output level, improving S/N in
the range where the volume is often used. Highly accurate volume
adjustment in variable steps of 0.5 dB in the range of -80 to +18 dB
is possible as well.
Pre Output Differential Signal Input
■ Video Conversion
The AVC-A1SR is equipped with a video switching system that converts
composite video signals to S-Video and/or composite and S-video to
component video. The input signal types---whether composite, S-Video,
or component---are auto detected, then the signal with the highest picture
quality is given highest priority and output to the monitor.
(Manual operation can be used to override auto detection.)
■ Support for Multi Zone Configurations
The AVC-A1SR provides a Multi Zone Output function and a Select function
that let you output different sources to multiple zones. Sources can be
selected for output to up to 2 additional zones, in addition to the main room.
Multi-room Zone 1 can have variable pre-amp output along with composite
video feed, and Multi-room Zone 2 can have fixed stereo audio output.
The AVC-A1SR’s Power Amplifier Assign function lets you assign the 2
Surround Back (SB L/R) amplifier channels when the system is not
configured for 7.1, to instead drive the Multi-room Zone 2 speakers, with 225
Watts per channel output power, while still providing 5 discrete amplifier
channels to drive all speakers in a 5.1 configured home theater room.
■ 2 Sets of 8-Channel External Analog Inputs
A/D Conversion and DSP Processing are also possible.
■ Personal Memory Plus
■ RS-232C Port (Third-party system controls only)
■ 8-+5 V and +12 V and Trigger Outputs

(below is a review found on internet)

The definitive monster home cinema amplifier,

the updated AVC-A1SR remains prodigiously

powerful, flexible and well

equipped.

Of course the original strengths

remain, and these include a meticulously

designed and unusually transparent D/A

stage based on no less than 16 (count

‘em!) Burr Brown 24 bit 192kHz DACs,

which clearly outperforms the D/A stage

of just about any DVD player you care to

name. One of the great strengths of the

AVC-A1SR was always that it had the

most power of any integrated amplifier,

not just on paper, with power output

very close to the rated one and two

channel figure of 170W/channel even

when five channels were driven at once.

The impression of almost boundless

power also holds up in the real world.

HEAVY METTLE

It is some time since I looked at the

Denon as a surrogate for a standard

stereo amplifier, with all digital video

and video processing bypassed or

switched off. In a way this shows the

mettle of any home cinema amplifier

more clearly than any other performance

characteristic, and for many people of

course it is important for its own sake.

I ran B&W 800 speakers with results

that were interesting to say the least.

The basic sound signature is

extremely well controlled and detailed.

As a multichannel home cinema

amplifier, the Denon is phenomenal.

Once set up properly, and it will take

some time and dedication to tweak it to

perfection, the Denon offers exquisitely

refined and detailed sound quality.

Image steering is particularly strong, not

just because the Denon can position any

sound source with precision in the 360

degree compass (which it can of course)

but because it can do so for a multiplicity

of sound sources being reproduced in

unison, which is the kind of ability

demanded by Hollywood’s more

complex soundtracks.

Better still, the sound overall provides

a real feeling of envelopment without

any obvious artificiality or manipulation –

or at least artificiality or manipulation

that is not part of the original recording.

And there is also plenty of brawn in the

Denon’s makeup to accompany its very

obvious subtlety and finesse.

The speed and clarity with which
the AVC-ASR1 amp moves effects

breathtaking.

For ultimate audio-visual quality and unprecedented surround sound performance the combination of the AVC-A1SR and DVD-A11 represents an astonishing achievement!

Additional info and glossary

7.1 channel equal power output

7 channel equal power is a feature used in Denon Amplifiers with the means of connecting 7 speakers independantly which do not require separate power amps connected via the pre-outs. This feature compliments Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES sound modes. Allowing you to connect the second 'surround back' speaker, which compliments the surround back speaker initially there for 6.1, straight off the main amplifier without adding a power amplifier to support 7.1 surround formats. The amplifier has built in separate internal amplifiers to power each channel independently, this system ensures that the 6 major channels Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround right, Surround Back left and Surround Back right. Thus allowing you to enjoy the same high power output, giving a balanced and truly high-impact surround-sound environment.

AL24 Processing Plus

Denon has further developed its proprietary AL24 Processiing, an analog waveform reproduction technology, to support the 192-kHz sampling frequency of DVD-Audio. This new technology, called AL24 Processing Plus, thoroughly suppresses quantization noise with D/A conversion of LPCM signals to reproduce the low-level signals with optimum clarity that brings out all the delicate nuances of the music. In high-end models, AL24 Processing Plus for all channels.

ALPHA Processing

ALPHA processing is the world's first technical formula for reproducing an analog waveform from the reproduction of 16-bit data in 20-bit quality. The ALPHA processer interpolates the digital data recorded on a CD and reproduces it in a waveform that is very close to the way these musical signals would look in a natural analog waveform.

Cinema Equalizer

The sound from movie sources recorded in Dolby Digital, DTS, or other formats emphasizes high-frequency range due to a theater’s front speakers being placed behind the movie screen. If this sound is reproduced in the home theater without correction, the high-frequency range is too strong. Denon amplifiers feature a Cinema Equalizer to correct these high-frequency components so that the sound is clearer and easier to listen to. (For Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS surround modes.)

D.D.S.C.-Digital-Circuit

D.D.S.C.-Digital for high-quality Sound Reproduction: DDSC (Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuit)-Digital is a circuit configuration specially designed by Denon in which all elements of the surround processor are optimized through the use of selected high-performance discrete components, including separate A/D and D/A converters, with sophisticated DSP surround decoding.

DENON LINK

Connected via a shielded twisted pair (STP) RJ-45 fitted cable to a Denon Link-compliant A/V amplifier, the balanced signal transfer offers lower voltage than coaxial or unbalanced cables. Since DENON Link is far susceptible to radiated noise, it ensures the highest level of signal transfer. The DENON Link interface is able to transfer high grade LPCM 24-bit, 192kHz, 2-channel and 96kHz, 24-bit, multi-channel digital output. Since Denon Digital Link uses low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS), transfer capabilities of greater than 1.2 Gbps at a differential voltage of approximately 0.3 Vpp are possible.

Dolby Digital EX

In a movie theater, film soundtracks that have been encoded with Dolby Digital surround EX technology are able to reproduce an extra channel which has been added during the mixing of the program. This channel, called Surround Back, places sounds behind the listener in addition to the currently available front left, front center, front right, surround right, surround left and subwoofer channels. The additional channel provides the opportunity for more detailed imaging behind the listener and brings more depth, spacious ambience and sound localization then ever before. Dolby Digital EX is not available in the system without surround back speaker(s).

Dolby Digital EX / Pro Logic IIx

In a movie theater, film soundtracks that have been encoded with Dolby Digital surround EX technology are able to reproduce an extra channel which has been added during the mixing of the program. This channel, called Surround Back, places sounds behind the listener in addition to the currently available front left, front center, front right, surround right, surround left and subwoofer channels. The additional channel provides the opportunity for more detailed imaging behind the listener and brings more depth, spacious ambience and sound localization then ever before. Dolby Digital EX is not available in the system without surround back speaker(s).

Dolby Pro Logic IIx is an extension of Dolby Pro Logic II technology. This highly sophisticated algorithm processes native stereo and 5.1 channel content to produce 6.1 or 7.1 output channels. And Dolby Pro Logic IIx is not available in the system without surround back speaker(s).

Dolby Digital-Decoder

Dolby Digital is the multi-channel digital signal format developed by Dolby Laboratories. Dolby Digital consists of up to "5.1" channels - front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right and an additional channel exclusively reserved for additional deep bass sound effects (the Low Frequency Effects - LFE - channel, also called the ".1" channel, containing bass frequencies of up to 120Hz).

Unlike the analog Dolby Pro Logic format, Dolby Digital's main channels can all contain full range sound information, from the lowest bass, up to the highest frequencies - 22kHz. The signals within each channel are distinct from the others, allowing pinpoint sound imaging and Dolby Digital offers tremendous dynamic range from the most powerful sound effects to the quietest, softest sounds, free from noise and distortion.

Dolby Headphone

In conventional headphones, sound is directed into the listener’s ears from two sides in order to preserve the stereo effects from the speakers. Dolby Headphone, however, generates signals that more closely emulate surround sound from the speakers to give you a more realistic multi-channel sound effect through your headphones. Dolby Headphone provides three modes:

DH1: Referred to as Dolby Headphone “Reference Room,” this mode recreates a small, acoustically “dry” room, well suited to both music and movie programmes.

DH2: This mode has an acoustically softer effect than DH1, and is best suited for music recordings.

DH3: This mode gives a greater sense of distance and sonic dispersion to create a large room such as a concert hall or movie theatre.
Dolby Headphone supports Dolby Pro Logic, Pro Logic ll, and Dolby Digital as well as stereo and multi-channel signals. Dolby Headphone reproduces the sonic experience you receive through your speakers from stereo or multi-channel sources

Dolby Pro Logic II

The Dolby Pro Logic ll decoder reproduces dynamic 5.1-channel surround sound from 2-channel sources such as TV, videos and CDs. Dolby Pro Logic ll uses matrix-decoding technology that has been dramatically improved over Pro Logic. With Pro Logic ll, for instance, the Surround channels are in stereo instead of just mono with Pro Logic, and playback covers the full frequency range instead of just up to 7kHz with Pro Logic. These improvements let you enjoy a wide variety of 2-channel sources with the exciting effects of 5.1-channel surround sound. In Dolby Pro Logic ll, there is a Movie mode (*1) that creates a sound field for movies, a Music mode that does the same for music, and a Pro Logic emulation feature that reproduces sound effects in the way that conventional Pro Logic does.

Dolby Pro Logic II Music: The music mode creates a rich and enveloping surround ambience delivered to the subwoofer, optimizing the visceral of planned rear effects. This mode can only be used with 2-channel audio sources.

Dolby Pro Logic II Cinema: The Cinema mode is optimized for movies or programs with Dolby Surround soundtracks. This mode is also appropriate for use with video game.

Dobly Pro Logic II Game: The game mode was implemented to ensure that the bass impact from pure surround effects are fully delivered to the subwoofer, optimizing the visceral of panned rear effects. This mode can only be used with 2-channel audio sources.

Dolby Pro Logic IIx

Dolby Pro Logic IIx is an extension of Dolby Pro Logic II technology. This highly sophisticated algorithm processes native stereo and 5.1 channel content to produce 6.1 or 7.1 output channels. And Dolby Pro Logic IIx is not available in the system without surround back speaker(s).

Dolby Pro Logic IIx Music: The music mode creates a rich and enveloping surround ambience delivered to the subwoofer, optimizing the visceral of planned rear effects. This mode can only be used with 2-channel audio sources.

Dolby Pro Logic IIx Cinema: The Cinema mode is optimized for movies or programs with Dolby Surround soundtracks. This mode is also appropriate for use with video game.
Doppelgleichrichter in Parallelschaltung

DTS 96/24

DTS 96/24 allows high-quality 5.1 channel sound playback with full-quality, full-motion video. DTS 96/24 allows both digital audio output and video output from your existing DVD player and is backward compatible with existing DTS decoders for normal DTS 5.1 playback. DTS 96/24 actually exceeds the resolution of most film soundtrack masters to date, and will initially apply mainly to high quality DTS music DVD discs.
DTS Neo:6 Cinema & DTS-Neo:6 Music

This mode decodes 2-channel signals into 6-channel signals using high accuracy digital matrix technology. The DTS NEO:6 decoder has near discrete properties in the frequency characteristics of the channels as well as in channel separation.

According to the signals being played back, DTS NEO:6 Cinema mode optimized for playback or the DTS NEO:6 Music mode optimized for music playback.

DTS-Decoder

A data compression method developed by Digital Threater Systems that takes six channels of audio (5.1) and folds them into a single digital bitstream. This differs from Dolby Digital in that the data rate is a somewhat higher 1.4 Mbs, which represents a compression ratio of about 4 to 1.In order to take advantage of this DVD feature, a DTS decoder is required. DTS decoders are installed internally in Denon players and A/V recievers.

DTS-ES Discrete/Matrix 6.1, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6

A data compression method developed by Digital Threater Systems that takes six channels of audio (5.1) and folds them into a single digital bitstream. This differs from Dolby Digital in that the data rate is a somewhat higher 1.4 Mbs, which represents a compression ratio of about 4 to 1.In order to take advantage of this DVD feature, a DTS decoder is required. DTS decoders are installed internally in Denon players and A/V recievers.

DTS-ES Extended Surround is a multi-channel digital signal format develpoed by Digital Theater Systems Inc. While offering high compatibility with the conventional DTS Digital Surround format, DTS-ES greatly improves the 360 degree surround impression and space expression thanks to further expanded surround signals. This format has been used professionally in movie theaters since 1999.

In addition to the 5.1 surround channels, DTS-ES also offers the surround back channel for surround playback with a total of 6.1 channels. DTS-ES includes two signal formats with different surround signal recording methods, as DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 and DTS-ES Matrix 6.1.

DTS-ES Discrete 6.1

DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 is the newest recording format. With it, all 6.1 channels (including the SB channel) are recorded independently using a digital discrete system. The main feature of this format is that because the SL, SR and SB channels are fully independent, the sound can be designed with total freedom and it is possible to achieve a sense that the acoustic images are moving about freely among the background sounds surrounding the listener from 360 degrees. Though maximum performance is achieved when sound tracks recorded with this system are played using a DTS-ES decoder, when played with a conventional DTS decoder the SB channel signals are automatically
down-mixed to the SL and SR channels, so none of the signal components are lost.

DTS-ES Matrix 6.1

With this format, the additional SB channel signals undergo matrix encoding and are input to the SL and SR channels beforehand. Upon playback they are decoded to the SL, SR and SB channels. The performance of the encoder used at the time of recording can be fully matched using a high precision digital matrix decoder developed by DTS, thereby achieving surround sound more faithful to the producer’s sound design aims than with conventional 5.1- or 6.1-channel systems. In addition, the bit stream format is 100% compatible with conventional DTS signals, so the effect of the Matrix 6.1 format can be achieved even with 5.1-channel signal sources. Of course it is also possible to play DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 encoded sources with a DTS 5.1-channel decoder.

DTS 96/26

DTS 96/24 allows high-quality 5.1 channel sound playback with full-quality, full-motion video. DTS 96/24 allows both digital audio output and video output from your existing DVD player and is backward compatible with existing DTS decoders for normal DTS 5.1 playback. DTS 96/24 actually exceeds the resolution of most film soundtrack masters to date, and will initially apply mainly to high quality DTS music DVD discs.

DTS Neo:6

This mode decodes 2-channel signals into 6-channel signals using high accuracy digital matrix technology. The DTS NEO:6 decoder has near discrete properties in the frequency characteristics of the channels as well as in channel separation.

According to the signals being played back, DTS NEO:6 Cinema mode optimized for playback or the DTS NEO:6 Music mode optimized for music playback.

HDCD-Decoder

HDCD-encoded CDs are encoded with 20 bits of real musical information, as compared with 16 bits for all other CDs. HDCD overcomes the limitation of the 16-bit CD format by using a sophisticated system to encode the additional 4 bits onto the CD while remaining completely compatible with the existing CD format. HDCD provides more dynamic range, a more focused 3-D soundstage, and extremely natural vocal and musical timbre. With HDCD, you get the body, depth, and emotion of the original performance not a flat, digital imitation.

On Screen Display

An on-screen display (OSD) is a control panel on a computer monitor or television screen that allows you to select viewing options and/or adjust components of the display, such as brightness, contrast and input and output settings.

On a Plasma, LCD or even a Projector screen, an on-screen display can usually be activated either through buttons on the television set itself or through the remote control. On-screen displays from DVD players and amplifiers are becoming increasingly complex and interactive. Connecting any type of video connection between the Denon DVD players and Amplifiers willb ring up a OSD on the screen you are using. In some cases you have more controllable features listed on the OSD than the menu on the units display.

SHARC

32-bit Floating Point DSP Hammerhead Sharc, the latest DSP from Analog Devices, is used for the decoder to further boost digital signal processing capability and also providing the highest dynamic range. Faster processing speed results in more complete surround decoding
