Did you know that grains, nuts and corn are not ideal for your rabbit or guinea pig?  They contain lots of starches and oils and have an inverse calcium to phosphorus ratio to what is needed. Most pellets and mixes have a lot of these fattening ingredients. These animals are designed to digest predominately hay, grass and leaves. 

So choosing an Oxbow pellet that is based on grass hay, not grains, makes good sense.

We recommend a diet that includes: 75% grass hay/grass(for fibre and nutrients - see Oxbow's Western Timothy & Botanical Hays), measured amounts of high quality, grass-based Oxbow pellets (for fibre and life-stage appropriate nutrients and vitamins) and a limited range of appropriate veggies.

 Bunny Basics/T is specifically designed to meet the particular nutritional needs of adult rabbits (1 yr and older). It's base of Timothy grass hay provides the lower calcium, lower protein and higher fibre necessary to maintain optimal health and makes Bunny Basics/T the exotic animal veterinarian's #1 choice for adult rabbits.

Bunny Basics /T is not recommended for growing, gestating or lactating rabbits.

If your rabbit is under one year old, gestating or lactating, we recommend Oxbow's Bunny Basics 15/23 - the fortified pellet for bunnies with higher nutrient requirements.  15/23 is also good for underweight rescue bunnies and elderly bunnies that are having a hard time maintaining weight.

What is the cheapest way to get Oxbow Products?  Generally, its cheapest to buy at a clinic or shop listed on our website.  If there are no retailers near you, the next best option is to buy here and when possible, purchase more than one item at a time.  There are often postage discounts when you purchase more than one bag of pellets or combine with a hay purchase.  Please send us a note with your post code and how many bags you are considering, and we'll find out the rate.

We generally ship on Monday, Wednesday and Friday via Australia Post.  If we have your order details and payment by about 11AM on those days, it will generally ship the same day.  Paypal payments are nearly instantaneous so if you want your order to ship today - using paypal or calling us with a credit card are your best options.  We love payments via direct deposit and those generally take a day or two to clear.
