 Title: "Blue Triangle Butterfly" (Scientific Name: Graphium Sarpedon Choredon) ARTIST'S STATEMENT This butterfly (Graphium Sarpedon Choredon) is commonly known as a Blue Triangle Butterfly, because its wing colour is black to dark brown with blue areas which joins to make a triangle. The females and males look almost the same, but when you look carefully you can see that the male has a fringe of scent-bearing hairs along the inner edges of his hind wings which he uses it to disperse scent to the female. Butterflies are instantly familiar and universally popular. They do not bite, sting, carry disease or (in adult form) do any serious damage. Butterflies are considered the jewel of creation and are popular among collectors. They are the symbol of the souls immortality that physical death does not destroy, and in their pleasing, fluttering flight they are associated with Eros the god of love. As most residents and business people go about their daily routine they are often oblivious to what they would consider irrelevancies around them. These creatures, although often unobserved by all that pass, captured my interest and fascination. They were not chosen as subjects because they were exotic nor endangered but simply because they were part of my every day life. I attempt to explore and display the beauty of colours, pattern and shapes of some of the familiar creatures within my own environment. Each creature is presented with an air of importance. Their forms are large and dominating within the artwork ensuring they are no longer overlooked. I present a realistic depiction making them easily identifiable. They’re produced in an attempt to create a wider environmental awareness. ORIGINAL ARTIST PRINTS Printed on high quality 240gm 100% cotton, acid-free, archival, fine art paper. A3 size (29.7 x 42cm). These prints are the artwork's original physical form, NOT reproductions. This original art work was created digitally, through painting by hand with an electronic pen on a digital drawing tablet, directly with a computer. The process of creating an art image digitally restricts the physical presentation of the artwork to printed form. So like wood blocks, etchings, screen printing and photography, it is not possible to have any other physical representation. Each print comes with a signed certificate of Authenticity directly from the artist along with a written artist statement about the image that you are purchasing. MATERIAL QUALITY Includes a signed certificate of authenticity which incorporates an artist statement, along with a short artist bio and an information sheet about preserving art on paper. She has won numerous international art contests. Her former employment includes Artist-In-Residence and Private Art Tutor for a community center and an Art Teacher for a children's resource unit.
