I don’t know diddly about sextants, so I don’t know the correct terminology for all (any) of the components.  This looks to be a complete set with a nice wood box with a lock and key, as well as the original label and certificate.  I say complete because I don’t see any empty niches in the box-even the cleaning brush is still here.  Everything is in good condition, but there are signs of use and exposure to the elements.  You can see the brass on this instrument.  I think most, if not all, of the black pieces may be brass as well-I do see that brass color peeking out where there are little nips in the paint.  The handle is wood and the black parts on that side have a bit of fine verdigris.  Everything that is supposed to move operates smoothly.  No stripped threads anywhere.  Everything that you can look through seems to be clean and clear-the exception would be the long (about 7 inches) tube.  There are two pairs of parallel lines that are perpendicular to each other forming what I will call a double crosshair-it gives you a square in the center of the field for sighting.  When I look at my computer monitor through this piece I can see everything well (really tiny though) and the lines of the crosshair are fine, but there are some tiny little bits of something else in there.  My photographs should be able to tell you everything else you need to know about the cosmetic condition.  As a frame of reference, the box is roughly 11 1/2 by 11 1/2 and 5 1/2 inches high.  There are a couple of cracks in the box (mahogany?), but it is sturdy and tight with mortise and tenon joinery, and brass screws.  All of the hardware on the box is brass.  That certificate is not just stuck under the brass label-those two bottom screws go through it.  I did not notice this the first couple times I was checking this thing out, but the certificate is torn along there.  If no one messes with it, it should be fine.  You can see this is number 8191 and it was made in 1920.  I think this sextant looks great for being almost ninety years old.

Shipping weight is 11 pounds.

Questions: Please email me early with your questions!  I work a full time job and am only able to check my messages in the evenings and on weekends.

Pennsylvania residents beware!  I am required to collect a 6% sales tax on your purchase, and on the shipping charges for that item.

Shipping Policy: I bill for the actual cost of shipping plus my best estimate on the cost of packing materials.  I do NOT charge for “handling”.  I usually ship within three business days of receiving payment.  I will combine shipping on items when possible.  If you win multiple items please wait for an invoice-you will make out better this way than if I were to use eBay’s combined weight method.  Also, insurance is always available.  I will not be held responsible for any loss or damage if you elect to not purchase insurance.

International Customers: You must pay by PayPal.  I will not falsify customs documents.  Other shipping services may be available.  Insurance is available for Priority Mail or Express Mail.

Seller's payment instructions
I would appreciate payment/contact within seven days of auction close. I will not bug you with an invoice unless I do not hear from you by the sixth day, or so. If you are more comfortable with an invoice I will be glad to provide one. If you win multiple items please wait for an invoice (I will send it by the end of the day after the auction closes-this will usually be Monday night)-you will make out better this way than if I were to use eBay’s combined weight method.
