The reader of this book is carried to isolated spots in northern Australia that have rarely, if ever, been described before, places that to most Australians are merely names on a map - El Sherana, Weipa, Normanston, Duyfken Point, the Mary K., Thursday Island, Pentecost Island, the Bucket, Fossil Downs, and many more.

George Farwell not only describes the places he visited in the remote and lonely northern section of the Australian continent but he paints a colourful and sympathetic picture of the people he met and talked with.  Also - and, perhaps this is the most important - he discusses the problems associated with conditions and future development in this vast region.

 This 230 page softcover is illustrated with black and white photographs.  There are some marks, creases (including a heavy crease to back cover) and edgewear to cover and the book is slightly askew.  Internally there is browning and mottling to page edges due to age and there is a residual yellow glue mark to first page where store sticker was originally.  Not the prettiest looking book and for that reason it is being sold as a reading copy only, but is a fascinating read about life in a remote area of Australia.
