About these necklaces….

These beautiful Baltic amber necklaces are handmade by myself, a 'jeweller' and 'work at home mother' in Byron Bay.

• I make them out of rounded and polished genuine Baltic amber beads, that I ship from Lithuania, a small country near the Baltic sea in Europe.

• I string them on 1mm thick, black, white or gold silk cord...The reason I use silk is because its strength is superior to cotton but it's still a natural fibre to be against your childs sensitive skin.

• I then secure the necklace with a sterling silver clasp and safety ring. (Not a Magnetic clasp which can be easily removed and lost by your child, or screw clasp which relies on the necklace breaking to prevent choking)

Why buy a necklace from me?….

• I am a jeweller with many years experience in making quality jewellery.

• I use amber beads that are much larger, more than double the size of the imported necklaces, so you are getting twice the amount of therapeutic amber, which is a very important factor. My necklaces weigh on average 8 grams. Ask the others what theirs weigh….

• I use very rounded beads, for greater comfort and greater surface contact, for better effect. (the chips or chunks leave little dents in bubs neck…I learned from experience)

• Each piece of amber is graded and scrutinised for shape, colour and blemishes (some natural blemishes are attractive and some are not!) before being knotted onto the necklace, for instance, in the rainbow necklaces, each bead is placed carefully to create the effect of one colour fading gently into the next colour, to create that wonderfull rainbow effect that you will only find on my necklaces.

• Each necklace is pre-streched, so you know that the length you are purchasing is the length it will stay (unlike imported necklaces which have been know to stretch up to 6cm)

• When you buy a necklace from me, you are purchasing not only relief for your child, but a necklace that has been crafted lovingly and carefully by my own hands, and that with the proper care, will last a lifetime!

Safety measures I take for you….

Safety for your child is my first concern, as it is for my own young son (my gorgeous model in the photograph).

I tie a knot between each piece of amber, so in the unlikely event of it breaking (the silk cord is very strong, much stronger than cotton), only one amber bead will come off, which means greatly less choking hazard! And less loss of amber. (Beware sellers with unknotted or semi knotted necklaces, as this is dangerous for bubby)

I also finish these necklaces with a sterling silver safety ring and clasp (I am the only one who employs this safety measure on ebay as yet.), the safety ring is soft and will open if pulled hard, so if your baby does get itself caught on anything, the jump ring would simply open and the necklace would come off without breaking! (unlike imports, which rely on the necklace breaking to prevent strangulation.)

Baltic amber as a natural teething remedy

Baltic amber has natural pain relief and natural anti-inflamitory properties due to the slow release of its natural oils upon the warming of the stone from your babies skin. The active constituent present in the resin is called succinic acid, this is what your body absorbs. Baltic amber is actually fossilised sap from the ancient Conifer trees found around the Baltic sea 40-50 million years ago.

For centuries, all over Europe, amber has been used to help with certain ailments such as the pain and inflammation caused by teething. It has been such a prized possession that for some time, pieces of it were used as currency.

These necklaces are not designed to be chewed upon by children with teeth, just worn about the neck. Children should always be supervised whilst wearing a necklace.
