Astelia chathamica, known as the Chatham Island Astelia or Silver Spear, is a small strap-leaf plant that is native to New Zealand.

The largest of the New Zealand Astelia, this robust species grows to about 1.5 metres tall.

With its broad, strap-like, silvery leaves and showy clusters of bright orange to red fruit in autumn, it is an impressive plant for the temperate garden and has received much attention recently.

It prefers a sunny or only lightly shaded spot in well drained soil in a cool temperate climate, takes some coastal exposure and will survive light to moderate freezes.

For sale is a packet of 10 fresh seeds.
