 Chinook Hops Rhizome Humulus lupulus

Last rhizomes for the year. Due to demand I have just dug up another 20 rhizomes that are ready to be planted.

Chinook is the fastest growing variety and you will not be disappointed by its amazing growth rates and huge yields.

Chinook Hops rhizomes $12.00 each plus Postage. Please note that $12.00 buys you one of the rhizomes in the photo. Other photos show the growth of the hops vine and cones. These rhizomes have multiple dormant buds and shoots, and are at least 15cm long with many 25-30cm or longer. For some of the smaller thinner rhizomes I will supply two rhizomes.

Chinook is an American hops variety that is often used in brewing American pale ales and Indian pale ales. One of the signature hops used in Little Creatures popular Pale Ale. Chinook has been bred for high bitterness and also packs a huge citrus aroma punch. Chinook is an extremely vigorous variety that produces high yields. It is a good variety to grow if you are worried about your lack of gardening and plant growing ability. Its growth and yields will astound you.

The hops bine (vine) is an attractive garden plant that grows quickly during spring and summer. Hops can be grown up and along trellises, lattice, fences, poles etc. They are a particularly attractive foliage plant and useful around outdoor entertaining areas where they can be grown as a privacy screen or for protection from the sun during summer. Female hops vines produce flowers or cones between late summer and autumn, which are used to add bitterness, flavour and aroma when brewing beer. Because hops bines die back to the ground before winter, they allow sunlight to penetrate during winter. Following a period of winter dormancy, they will shoot again from the rhizome (underground stem) in late winter or early spring.

Hops are easy to grow and maintain. Hops grow best in the southern half of Australia where long summer day lengths are experienced. They can also be grown successfully in northern parts of Australia but you may not achieve such a large harvest of hop cones - several people in Queensland successfully grow their own hops. Hops need plenty of water during summer and occasional fertilising like any other plant. They also need some sort of structure like a fence, pole, wire etc. to grow on. The rhizome can be planted directly into the ground or planted initially in a large pot containing quality potting mix and later transplanted into the ground as a small plant. In subsequent seasons, the plant will increase in size and produce larger crops of flowers. Hops flowers have also had widespread use in various folk medicines and herbal remedies to problems such as insomnia.

If you are the successful bidder, the rhizome will be sent to you free of soil in a moistened coir mix in a ziplock bag. The rhizome should be planted shortly after receiving it, or if planting is to be delayed, the rhizome can be stored in the bag in the refrigerator for a short time until planted. Detailed growing instructions are provided.

Postage is an additional $5.50 via regular post. Buy further items from me in the same transaction and pay a maximum of $11.00 express postage. Please note that if you buy 2-3 smaller rhizomes from me in the same transaction I will aim to post them to you for only $5.50 wherever possible.

Payment preferred by bank deposit or paypal.

AUSTRALIAN (EXCEPT WA) BIDDERS ONLY PLEASE! I WILL NOT POST OVERSEAS.

I will NOT post rhizomes to Western Australia because the plant import entry requirements for this state are onerous and costly. I can post rhizomes to Tasmania.
