HOME MADE VICTORIAN CLOTH DOLL - From family history I believe this doll dates approximately from the mid to late victorian period. Have named her "Victoria" , she is mostly hand stitched with the lace at the bottom of the skirt and down the skirt seam I believe to be machine stitched, understand the home sewing machines came into general use about 1850's. "Victoria" has been made to look like a young version of Queen Victoria. Her top part of body and skirt are made of a very thick wool material, and does not appear to have faded too much, has gathered some dust in the gathering of her skirt at the waistline. Skirt has come away a little at the back but only needs a couple of extra stitches to put right. Approximately three moth holes, only small, are in the back part of the skirt. The lace round her neck, cuffs, and bottom of skirt has deteriorated a little over the years. Features on her face are embroidered and hair made of plaited wool. Victoria's legs are made of a stripped cotton material, and as you will see from photo the bottom of legs are very faded. Please study carefully all three photos. Overall condition I would class as good for age. Overall height is approximately 19.5"(49.5cm.). Remember this is a home made doll, I would call a folk art item. Rather interesting, much loved, and now looking for a new home, perhaps a doll collector or toy museum maybe interested. Should you have a question please message me and will answer as soon as I can. Thank you.
