This is a Vintage Covered Sugar Bowl in the "Pink or Red Tower" Pattern, produced by W.T. Copeland & Sons, Ltd. at their Spode Works located at Stoke, England in the Staffordshire Potteries area.
When covered, it stands 4" to the top of the finial on the lid. The bowl measures 4-1/2" by 3-3/4" at the top and is 2-3/4" deep. The Tower Pattern, a favorite since c. 1780, shows a scene reputedly on Spode's estate, done in the Chinese manner. The border is English. The Gadroon shape from 18th Century English silver is used. There are no chips, cracks, scratches, crazing or discolorations in either piece. The colors are bright and unfaded and the glazed finish is nice and shiny. The Copeland Spode Backstamp was used from 1891 to 1970.
