THE SECOND COUNTRY LIFE PICTURE BOOK OF LONDON
Hard to Find Out of Print Book
This is the second of Country Life's collections of photographs of the London scene. Like the first, its objects are to provide an image of the face of London, to record some of its most famous buildings, streets and rivers scenes, and to show some of the aspects of this vast capital of which visitors - and even Londoners - are often unaware.
The book is planned as might be an exploration of London by a visitor with leisure at his command. It begins with Westminister and the West End. Then, by the weay of the Strand, to the City itself. The journey turns west through Holborn and Soho; across the river to Southwark and Bankside, upriver to Battersea and Chelsea, and north to the ROyal Borough of Kensington. From Regent's Park there are visits to Hampstead in the north and Chiswick and Richmond westwards. And, finally, by way of Milllbank and Shadwell to East London: to Shoredith and Camberwell, Blackheath and Greenwich, and the docks, where London meets the sea.
The photographs have all been taken for the book by G F Allen, well known of his fine studies of British scenery. This is the first book wholly devoted to his work.
