Book is in excellent pre-read condition, there is quite a bit of texta and pen underlining throughout the book.

Why and how crime occurs is a mater of constant debate. This second edition of Crime and Criminology provides an introduction to the key perspectives within criminology. It discusses:

the diverse and competing interpretations of the criminal act

the nature of people who engage in offending behaviour

the situations and contexts within which crime is defined and takes place

the explanations put forward for the causes and consequences of crime in society

 

Crime and Criminology identifies basic approaches within criminology - classical theory, biological and psychological positivism, labelling, Marxism, feminism, republicanism, left realism, new right, and critical theory - and discusses the specific terms and concepts used within each tradition. The strengths and weaknesses of each perspective, and its contribution to the field as a whole, are also evaluated. The social context of each theoretical development is highlighted, and historical and contemporary examples of each approach are given.
