Champion Technologies Inc 10.000MHz VCXO DIP Crystal OscillatorOn offer is 1 used VCXO (or VC-TCXO) from Champion Technologies Inc, (now MTron-PTI). This is a used unit, carefully removed from new equipment (a Stellex controller assembly) and is fully tested and working. It is small and convenient to use with reasonable phase-noise performance.
Marking on the can is "K1602TE 9901 800004-680 10.000 Mhz CTI 0067" . They are a high quality TCXO in a sealed can with a standard 0.1", 14 pin DIP foot print . The leads are short but the right length for std PCB material, and clean enough to fit in a turned-pin IC socket (as on my test jig). The manufacturer data sheet is available at: http://www.mtronpti.com/pdf/k1602te_datasheet091107.pdf
They are designed for 5V operation, but will work fine on 3.3V with a reduced tuning range.
These have a higher profile can than many of the mass produced VCXOs, with the same sealed construction used with modern OCXOs. Size is 20mm x 12mm x 10mm high and leads are trimmed to 3mm long. Pin one is identified by the square corner on the case (the others being rounded). With voltage control applied to pin 1 it will tune around 50ppm, ~+/-500Hz, though the datasheet says only 28ppm. I set the frequency with a multiturn 10K pot strung between the +5V/Gnd rails, and 10.000000MHz is reached at around 2.5V. Output is a squarewave, TTL/CMOS compatible, of 0-4V range. Supply current drawn is around 40mA at 5V.
This oscillator would make a good basis for a low-cost timebase in a frequency counter. Alternatively it would be very good for use in a GPS disciplined oscillator, where the control voltage on pin 1 is used to correct the frequency. These were used in professional microwave gear (actually to lock the Stellex YIGs/PLLs I've also been selling - they're better than the PLL onboard references), and although not as stable as an expensive ovened oscillator they are certainly a way ahead of the cheapies sold for microcontroller clock sources.
Price Reference: The big distributors charge a lot for units like this in small quantity. Last time I looked, RS/Farnell will ask £20..£50 each for such parts. Starting here at a fair price ...
About RFPlusRFPlus is now well settled in to his cosy nook down here in Cornwall - and with the Postal Strike averted (Ya-hay!!!) it's time to start on some new listings. I've discovered several boxes from previous projects, most parts now being surplus to my needs, and with the ever present need for cashflow it's time to liberate them here on Ebay. Listing always takes me a fair bit of time (so they'll appear slowly over the coming weeks) but if you've an interest in RF items, particularly Microwave frequency parts, then please check back because there are some real goodies coming up. In the meanwhile, I'll relist some items of which I still have a few and hope you'll find them interesting! For other info, visit my the 'About Me' page. If you're thinking of bidding/buying I'd ask that you visit that page at least once so you can read the 'Terms & Conditions' and a bit more about RFPlus. Click on the links below for more info ...
