While traveling to Buffalo, New york, one day, Calvin Miller discovered an unusual document concealed in an ingenious way in the bus terminal in Cleveland, Ohio.  It turned out to be a report presented by one Valiant to the Committee Before the Great Chai in Upperton.  Further investigation disclosed that Valiant to the Committee Before the Great Chair in Upperton.  Further investigation disclosed that Valiant is a Guardian Angel - all people have them - and the document is his account of his watchful protection over the man who has been his most recent charge, a young executive named J.B. Considine. The Valiant Papers reveals the trials of being guardian to a wayward and difficult mortal who has yet to say yes to the beloved Logos.  The task of keeping J.B. alive and well until he can move into the light exasperates and irritates poor Valiant.  His troubles are increased by the people with whom J.B. associates: Beau Ridley, who believes in the Logos but isn't necessarily any help; Aunt Ida, whose prayers for her nephew embarrass and shame him; and Cassie, the woman he loves.  With Valiant and J.B., it seems to be one step forward, two steps back - not the best way to move ahead.  But through it all, Valiant learns much about why the Logos love problem people and why the hope of redemption endures.
