This has been an amazing Camera to use in the field.

Included in this Auction is:

1 x EX1 Camera Body with ccd cap, 1 x Canon lens 15 x zoom with cover bag and lens cap and base cap, 1 x working stereo mic with no windbreak foam cover, 1 x sunshield lens accessory, 4 x battery (1 x 3600 mAh, 1 x 1800 mAh, 2 x 1000 mAh) not sure if they are holding a charge or not as I haven't used them for a while, 1 x DC-100 AC to batery adapter, 1 x CA-100AS battery charger/ power supply, 1 x  RU-ESAS video/audio to RF adapter, 1 x MC-100AS Multi (4) battery charger/reconditioner, 1 x Original EX1 manual, 1 x CA-100AS Manual and other original brochures, 1 x 12 v to 6v adapter to run camera from car or similar source (built in old battery case and with 7 m lead with XLR on end to extend), 1 x hoya 72mm skylight filter

This camera was bought in 1992 and has been used in Australia, New Guinea, Villa, Neumea, UK, France, Holland, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Single Owner  and has been repaired by Canon twice once in 1996 and then 1999, reciepts for all. The camera works but the view finder is not displaying the image anymore (it is fixable) but image records to tape and is present on the video out. The rubber around the view finder is perished and the light & mic shoes are lightly rusting (the mic shoe more so). The base of the mic for the shoe is loose and held together with a cable tie but does work.

The video heads were replaced and since then the camera has hardly been used and then only for playback to ingest tapes in to the computer so the tape transport should still have years of use in it. The lens in in good condition.

Apart from the stated and visual damage, as per the images, the camera is in good condition and certainly fixable to full working condition with  reasonable technical knowlege.

Some techno speal on the EX1

Canon developed the world's first video camcorder with interchangeable lenses. It used the VL mount system, and was targeting at pros and advanced amateurs. With the VL mount system, the lens data is transmitted between the camera and the interchangeable lens, allowing users to control functions such as autofocus and auto iris from the camcorder.

One thing that should be mentioned about the camera is the Time Lapse record feature a feature that has been forgotten about in most modern cameras. This Camera has the capability of recording a frame at a time seperated by a selected time. So you can record a plant growing in stop motion, the stars moving, there are so many possibilities.

On 02-Nov-09 at 08:56:34 AEDST, seller added the following information:

PLEASE NOTE: This unit will play Hi 8 tapes and as long as you have a video capture card in a PC or are using a DVD recorder box with a video input (not just a tuner) you will be able to record them to DVD.

On 03-Nov-09 at 09:45:08 AEDST, seller added the following information:

JUST FOUND... 1 x WL100 wireless controller... Also I can add 7 x 90 min Hi 8 tapes all purchased after 2000 (used once and stored well) so they should be in excellent condition.

Questions and answers about this item

Q: Are any issues with sound or video quality on the playback? I only need it to convert my Hi 8 tapes to DVD. Regards Soteris
A: No issues in play back or record, this precludes head clogs from old tapes so I would advise gettting a cleaning tape though

Q: Hi will the camera also play the original video 8 tapes
A: Yes this will play both 8 mm tapes and Hi 8 mm tapes. All Hi 8 cameras will do standard 8 tapes. Hi 8 format only used a higher frequency colour system (ie better colour) than the standard 8.

Q: Just a couple of questions I'd like to ask: - Does it come with a pop filter/foam cover for the boom-like microphone - How long does each battery last on a full charge - Does it come with any tapes - and does it have... Continue reading
A: Hi, 1) No the wind shield for the mic was lost years ago however this is not a Boom Mic (Shotgun Microphone) it is a stereo mic so it is no where near as sensitive as a boom mic. 2)As far as the batteries go as stated,... Continue reading
