Perfino il bagno della sua casa è tutto piastrellato con i colori nerazzurri, e non manca ovviamente un mosaico che forma il numero 4. E pensare che da ragazzino gli allenatori lo consideravano troppo magro per poter sfondare nel calcio, mentre oggi il suo quadricipite femorale viene celebrato anche dai tifosi delle squadre avversarie. Secondo assoluto dopo Beppe Bergomi e davanti a Giacinto Pacchetti per numero di presenze con la maglia dell'Inter, il Capitano è un calciatore che a 35 anni si allena come se avesse ancora tutto da dimostrare. Ed è anche un campione della solidarietà. Subito dopo Pesplosione della crisi economica argentina del 2001, Javier Zanetti ha costituito la Fundación Pupi, usando il suo soprannome come sigla che significa "per un'infanzia integrata", per aiutare i bambini poveri e diversamente abili della periferia di Buenos Aires, con progetti di istruzione, affido, adozione, formazione sportiva, avviamento al lavoro.
