Presented for consideration is a massive Carlton Ware Spiders Web Tray. The Spiders Web Motif is hand applied over the sought after Bleu Royale ground. This is one of my favourite of the hand-painted patterns.

It has the black stamped Bleu Royale maker’s mark that was in use from c.1951 until c. 1961. Impressed into the underside is the shape number, it is hard to make out, but it appears to be 2003/1.

Dimensions

This striking dish measures in at 31.5 cm (12.25”) across the handles and it is 18 cm (7”) wide.

Condition It is in EXCELLENT condition; there are no chips, cracks, stains or repairs. There is just a HINT of crazing and the odd spot of minor wear to the gilded rim strip – very minor.

I just love Carlton Ware’s hand painted pieces; while Spider’s Webb is one of the more common it is also one of the hottest. Set this on the sought after Bleu ground and this bold RETRO shape you have something impressive. This delight has obviously never been used and more than likely it has led the easy life of a cabinet dweller.
