Presented for consideration is an impressive Carlton Ware Vase, with a pair of twin gilded handles, hand-decorated with applied acrylic polka dots over a cobalt lustre ground (pattern number 4224). The inside is glazed in a divine mother of pearl lustre.

It has the black stamped under glaze maker’s mark of the style that was in use from 1925 until 1975. Impressed into the base is the shape number 1695/H, this shape number was intorduced into service in 1938. This magnificent ART DECO vase would have been manufactured some time between 1938 and 1942; the heart of the high deco era.

Dimensions

This impressive fat bottomed vase with its wavy handles - waddles in 17 cm (6.75”) tall and it has a girth of 15 cm (6”) at its broadest.

Condition

It is in EXCELLENT condition; there are no chips, cracks, stains or repairs. There is no wear to the magnificent cobalt lustre ground. There is some minor rubbing to the gilding on the handles (see the worst of it in the photo below).

Three of the acrylic spots have flaked away; these are all where the vase curves into the base so they are not visible when the vase is on display (see photo below). As is most often the case with production of this style and vintage it does exhibit crazing to the white base and the mother of pearl on the vases inside.

I have no doubt that this has only every had minor use and has never been abused. I believe it has been kept in the refined privilege of a display cabinet.

This vase just has to be seen to be believed – the white polka-dots just look magnificent against cobalt lustre ground. Hit the BUY IT NOW tab and make sure that this sweet heart is not pilfered right out from under your nose.
