It is a pleasured to present this large and prestigious Carlton Ware Vase hand decorated with the Wild Duck motif. It is on the rich red lustre background, the inside is glazed in lustre lime green.

The scene consists of a realistic Mallard Duck painted in a combination of under glaze paint, over glaze enamel and gilding. There are another two ducks done as black shadows against the rich red ground.

It has the black stamped maker’s mark of the style that was in use from 1925. The pattern number “3927” is hand painted on the base in black paint. This pattern number was introduced into production in 1935. I would give this vase a production window between 1935 and 1940.

Dimensions

This is an impressive sized vase, it is wider than it is tall, having a girth of 17.5 cm (7”) at its broadest it is 15 cm (6”) tall.

Condition

It is in EXCELLENT used condition; there are no chips, cracks, stains or repairs. As is most often the case with production of this style and vintage it does exhibit some clean crazing. There is no wear to the gilding or to the motif, there are some hints of wear to the surface of the glaze – nothing hideous, there are no white scratches – I really only mention for complete accuracy.

Wild Ducks is an early pattern from the heart of the ART DECO era, it is far rarer than the Duck pattern that was around in the 1950’s.
