Inside lid of box, Historical Note, "Sheffield" plate was made during the period 1760-1840. Thomas Boulsover first discovered the technique of fusing silver to copper, starting with buckles and buttons. He and other famous names like Matthew Boulton of Birmingham applies this technique to trays,candelabra,wine coasters, teasets, bowls ect. This piece follows this style, commonly used in the stately homes of England during the Age of Elegance Solver Plated Made in England. This coaster has a pierced gallery measures 6" diameter at rim.
