CHINA DOLL or CHINESE BELL TREE

Radermachera sinica

A native of tropical Asia, it where it prefers a warm climate, plentiful water and is accepting of most soils. However, it is quite hardy and will grow outdoors in a temperate climate in droughty conditions or as an indoor plant in cooler climates.

An evergreen tree to 8 metres with a spread of 3 metres, it has a stout stem with spreading branches. The leaves are dark green, large (up to 1 metre), with 8 prominently veined leaflets. The flowers are scented, white and open at night on mature plants spring to summer.

Marketed as China Doll for the indoor plant market in cooler climates, this plant was very popular for a period. Its dense, dark green foliage of multiple leaflets gives it a fresh, tropical look.  

Offered is a packet of 30 seeds and Grownotes to assist you to cultivate this handsome tree.
