Features Of This Chinese Sword

Sword Smith: Zhefei Gu

100 percent of the blade was hand forged and be consists of AISI 1045 folded steel + AISI 1060 high carbon steel. This blade is SanMai blade construction. Clay Tempered blade and water quenched. Hand sharpened blade can cut 5 bamboos with a strike and leaves not cracks on the cutting edge. Rose wood scabbard with 2 handmade brass collar and tip. Rose wood hilt was wrapped cotton rope with handmade brass pommel tip. Handmade brass dragon hand guard. All sword's mountings were carved Chinese traditional dragon designs. The sword's style remake as Chinese Ming Dynasty royal guarder's sword and making skill absolutely as Chinese royal traditional hand forged skills + Japanese traditional clay tempered method. This sword will come from a free silk sword bag when you won this auction

Notice: This blade was sharpened through traditional 12 processes hand sharpening work.

SANMAI

The middle red part of the blade is AISI 1060 high carbon steel. 2 blue layers divided laminated on the 2 sides are AISI 1045 folded steel. High carbon steel in the middle in order to make the cutting edge be very strength and reach the cutting standard. 2 blue layer AISI 1045 folded steel keep the blade's flexibility. Because it's easy to break for full strong of the blade. But if we use Sanmai blade construction that's not easy.

The red line not clay tempered line (hamon) and we call it is Sanmai Line. Sanmai Line is high carbon steel and middle carbon steel dividing line. The parts of the blade under the Samai Line is AISI 1060 high carbon steel and the parts of the blade above the Sanmai Line is middle AISI 1045 folded steel.

Clay Tempered

The gray range of above blade is thick layer clay covered range. The green tea range of above blade is thin layer clay covered range. The sword smith puts the thick clay on the gray range and puts the thin clay on the green tea range. Then the overall blade will be heated to flame red by Japanese traditional heater. In this stage, the green tea range temperature will be higher than gray range due to different thickness clay covered 2 ranges. Then quenched into water. In this stage, the green tea range will be stronger than gray range. After clay tempered method the blade will leave a slight and fantastic white borderline between green tea range and gray range and we call it's hamon. But let hamon show beautiful design need Japanese Traditional Polishing. To understand Japanese sword polishing is to understand the Japanese sword.
