Chrysler Valiant CL76C Sedan 1976

 LAVERGNE has been the greatest vehicle I've ever owned. Seating 6 people legally, courtesy of outstanding interiors, she has had only three prior owners and travels with a power and smoothness that is hard to believe. On multiple trips of up to 3000 km's apiece - interstate and inland, over sometimes trying terrain - she has averaged in excess of 500 KMs per tank of fuel. Even more amazingly it has not been necessary to top up her oil or water AT ALL. Her gearbox and engine are so functional and integrated she's just a joy to drive. In the three years I've had her she has never broken down once. The only adjustments I made in that time were the installation of a reconditioned radiator at the outset and the recent addition of four new tyres.

Unfortunately on the one night she was obliged to be parked on the street a black BMW 4WD veered across a wide road and struck her from tail to top on the drivers side. As is evident from the attached photos the damage was grievous - and repair likey to involve several thousand dollars. Given that her one existing fault was a heavily rusted section beneath the front windscreen (that leaks like a sieve) and some other patches around the base of the doors, the sum total of necessary work is beyond my means. I regret this terribly as I had every intention of keeping her for life - such is her reliability and panache.

All fittings and upholstery within are in impeccable nick - I've seen no other Valiants from this era that compare. Sadly, these CL's are almost entirely gone from Australia's roads these days - yet parts are ridiculously cheap and easy to come by. Bizarrely, the bonnet release cable broke this morning as we opened the bonnet to take these photos. The car will thus be sold as is - all such matters are stated frankly here.

This car has been an astounding blessing. Nothing can stop her and only aesthetic legalities really prevent us from keeping her. Her style is such - even now - that people stop and stare, smile - even bow - when they see her. The confidence, peace and airy pleasure you get behind the wheel is simply unrivalled.

I believe her capacities and attributes are such that she is best restored by a person with the knowledge and passion to do her justice. She will not let you down.
