COOGAN'S BLUFF

This Eastern Western, set in sixties New York, stars Eastwood as an enigmatic, dangerous Arizona sheriff who loses his prisoner in the concrete canyons of Manhattan. TWO MULE FOR SISTER SARAH

When a wandering mercenary named Hogan (Clint Eastwood) rescues a nun called Sisiter Sara (Shirley Maclaine) from the unwanted attentions of a band of rogues on the Mexican plains, he has no idea what he has let himself in for. Their chance encounter results in the blowing up of a train and a French garrison, as well as igniting a spark between them that survives a shocking discovery.

PLAY MISTY FOR ME

In Clint Eastwood's directional debut, he takes the role of Dave Garver, a radio disc jockey receiving requests from a female fan to "play Misty for me". When the woman arranges a meeting with Dave, the two begin a torrid affair. But Dave decides to end the relationship, and Evelyn's obsession turns into a deadly campaign of terror. Filmed in Eastwood's home town of Carmel, California, this continues to be considered a definitely great modern day thriller.

JOE KIDD

Filmed in 1971, "Joe Kidd" features veteran western director John Sturges, the classic backdrop of the High Sierras, the top notch acting skills of Robert Duvall and the rugged Eastwood as a "hired gun" who takes action based on a personal sense of justice. "There have always been westerns and there will always be westerns" Eastwood said. Joe Kidd is one of the best.

HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER

Clint Eastwood's second film as a director (following the highly successful Play Misty for Me), High Plains Drifter returns the actor to his familiar scene of the Old West and his familiar role of "The Man With No Name". Eastwood portrays a mysterious stranger who emerges out of the heat waves of the desert and rides into the guilt ridden town of Lago. Trouble is coming to town, and The Stranger is going to be at the centre of it.
