 Title: "Quarrion Love" ARTIST'S STATEMENT The affectionate nature of this feathered couples body language create an interesting composition where the two bodies combine to make what is almost a heart shape in the centre of the image. The males eyes focus intently on the loving task of grooming his lady, while hers reflect relaxation and enjoyment of the physical sensations. This is a portrait of a Cockatiel or Quarrion couple (Scientific Name: Nymphicus hollandicus). These are small parrots growing to 28cm in length. The brightly faced quarrion being the mature male. Females and juvenile males have a less colourful face. Both male and female have the 5cm long crest on the top of their head. The female is identifiable from the markings under her tail. These birds are found throughout inland Australia, more often seen as pets in coastal areas. They make a marvellous human companion, they are affectionate, love attention and can whistle tunes and even learn to talk a little. I grew-up hand raising quarrions as companions. They are fast learners and easily figure out how to open cage doors, although once tamed they are more interested in spending time with their owners than escaping. ORIGINAL ARTIST PRINTS

ARTIST QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE Di holds an Art Certificate (Tafe 2 years full time) & a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts (University 3 years full time) and has been a practicing artist for 18 years. She has won numerous international art contests. Her former employment includes Artist-In-Residence and Private Art Tutor for a community center and an Art Teacher for a children's resource unit.
