‘DWARF CHERRY ROSE’

NASTURTIUM

(7+ fresh seeds)

This is probably the finest Nasturtium from seed. A free-flowering variety producing a profusion of 5-6.5 cm (2-2 ½ inch) cherry-coloured flowers on dwarf, blue-green leafed plants. ‘Dwarf Cherry Rose’ Nasturtium is a colourful, easy to grow, low plant to 30 cm (12 inches) that’s ideal for massing, borders or for spot colour. Makes an excellent cut flower for small arrangements.

Nasturtiums are antibiotic, antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial due to the mustard oils in the plant. Chewing the leaves is a good way of disinfecting one's mouth. The leaves are also very tasty in potato salad or egg salad and on cream cheese sandwiches. They taste peppery like watercress. They're a means for boosting appetite and stimulating digestion. The flowers are less peppery; they contain a lot of vitamin C and make an excellent flavouring (and colouring) for vinegar and are beautiful in a delicate tossed salad.

When planting, choose a sunny position, with moderately poor soil. This promotes less leaf and better flowers. Never pamper your Nasturtiums with excess fertiliser - excess fertiliser will cause lots of green leaves and no blooms. They do flower best in average garden soil with a loose, light texture. Remove spent blooms to promote flowering. Suitable for growing in window boxes, hanging baskets and beds. Seed requires darkness to germinate. Plant at a recommended depth of 1.25 cm (½ inch). Soaking the seed for 24 hours before planting will soften the hard seed coat and aid germination. 

Sow spring and early summer Cool; late winter to late summer Temperate; late summer to early spring Tropical, 40 days.

All other combinations of seed packs, please contact me prior to the end of the auctions and I will send you a postage quote.
