Craftsman Homes

Gustav Stickley, who was a master craftsman, furniture designer, architect and publisher, created the Arts & Crafts style of architecture during the first twenty years of the twentieth century which is known today as simply "Craftsman" or "Craftsman Homes."

The Craftsman plans offered the average American family a house that was truly a home, based on the ideals of beauty, simplicity, utility and organic harmony.

Gustav showed his designs and ideas through his magazine The Craftsman, publishing descriptions and drawings of homes beginning in 1901, and later on his two classic books: Craftsman Homes (1909) and More Craftsman Homes (1912).

Gustav's Craftsman Home collects all of Stickley house designs, published in The Craftsman magazine between 1904 and 1916. All the designs are here in sequential order from 1 to 221, as well as commissions and special designs, along with exterior illustrations, floor plans, and fascinating historical photographs for many of the featured homes. Contemporary photographs of selected built houses, keyed by number to Stickley designs, take the reader's experience from paper dreams to modern reality.

Craftsman Homes is a must-have book for lovers of good design, students of architecture, history buffs, or those who want to put the Arts & Crafts philosophy to practical use.

Please note: This excellent PDF Reprint is a high-quality, electronic facsimile version of the actual book published in 1909.

100 Edwardian House Floor Plans

Originally a sales catalog advertising the sale of building blue prints available from the Radford Architectural Company, published in 1900s, this classic architectural book contains the perspective view and floor plans of 100 low and medium priced American houses in the Edwardian era.

In this work, great care "has been exercised in the selection of original, practical and attractive house designs", and "in the drawing of these plans, special effort has been made to provide for the most economical constructions, thereby giving the home builder and the contractor the benefit of the saving of many dollars."

There are also pithy bits of advice and cost estimates following with each plan, which makes this book more valuable.

Please note: This excellent PDF Reprint is a high-quality, electronic facsimile version of the actual book published in 1900s.
