Creative Stitches
by Edith John
published by Batsford, London, 2nd impression 1969
By line drawings and, and with the help of a brief text, Edith John shows how well-known stitches can be varied and developed into exciting new stitches. The reader sees how fresh stitches can be created to carry out most appropriately the spirit of a piece of embroidery which is itself creative.
Individual chapters are on: experimental embroidery, flat stitches, chained stitches, looped stitches, knotted stitches, couching, the sewing machine group of stitches, canvas work and gold work.
