I have used the gel packs in extreme heat (Mombassa, Kenya) and found them to be most beneficial in helping to maintain core body temperature in the range that allows the body to function normally. Impact …..I have been unlucky enough to have been hit in the head while wearing the current model Coldie Helmet, and I am happy to report that the impact was well absorbed by the helmet. The impact zone was toward the left temple while trying to execute a fine sweep from a med/fast bowler. The ball hit the helmet flush and the damage to the helmet was minimal (cosmetic only). Response from other cricketers…. Cricketers are in general very conservative and unwilling to change. The initial response to Coldie helmets was that it was a good idea, but the look was wrong. I was in agreement with this, and have worked hard with Nick to come up with a shape that would be pleasing on the eye and also function well in terms of protection and body temperature control. It has got to the stage now where first class cricketers are willing to wear the Coldie helmet and are requesting to do so.
