Nicely illustrated by Alan Lee with black & white and color drawings. This book explores the ancient mythology and cultural stories that lay behind "The Lord of the Rings"-- the symbol of the ring, the Earth magic, the Balrog of Moria and much more. As such, this book is not a mere retelling of Tolkien's work, but is more of a literary exploration, complete with beautiful illustrations; of the stories behind the great fantasy classic.

1994 Harper Collins softcover in excellent condition. Weight 880 grams unpackaged.
