While there are millions of Star Trek fans out there, the Star Trek franchise has largely been ignored in the last few years; so it’d take a bold step to restore Trek to its former glory. Director J.J. Abrams is known for his many bold steps, and in this case, results are stunning. James Kirk (Chris Pine) is a young and largely disobedient recruit in the Starfleet, enjoying antagonising his instructor, Spock (Zachary Quinto). But when a new menace threatens the peace of the galaxy, Kirk and his fellow new recruits are fast-tracked into service, and Kirk finds himself on board the newest starship in the fleet – The USS Enterprise. Now Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew must mount a last stand against the war-hungry race of the Romulans. Abrams has managed to make Star Trek a modern and action-packed sci-fi film without sacrificing what the old school Trek fans love about the series. Put simply, this is a must-see.
