Southern Cross Rally 1970

Black and White photographic print 8"x10" (20x25cm) taken during the 1970 Westfield Plaza Southern Cross Rally.

The Southern Crosss Rally was an Internationally sanctioned event which was mainly held on challenging roads in the forests and hills surrounding the New South Wales northern coastal town of Port Macquarie.  While not part of the Australian Rally Championship, it did however attract top fields of international competitors from 1966 to 1980.

This photo shows the South Australian Datsun Rally Team entered Datsun 1600 driven by Stewart McLeod and navigated by Adrian Mortimer.  They finished the event in third position behind the winning Holden Dealer Team Torana XU-1 of Barry Ferguson and Dave Johnson.
