Alfred's Homestead is a Fully Licensed Restaurant.
Over the last 21 years Alfred's Homestead has offered Restaurant customers a huge variety of wines to enjoy with their beautiful Smorgasbord.
In the early days it was not uncommon for a couple to sit and enjoy at least 2 bottles of wine with their smorgasbord.Today with drink driving laws most couples would stick to a couple of glasses with at most 1 bottle.
Every effort was made to provide the best of wines in the market and at the best price.
Our cellar in the early days had at least 350 different bottles of wine.
In those days wine lovers had a feast for they could purchase to drink with their meals great wines indeed. Many at times begged to pay to take home a wine that they knew was no longer available in the market place.
Alfred's Homestead has now the licence to enable one to purchase and take home bottles of wine they have enjoyed .
Over the years we have stocked up on good wines and we now have quite a number of good vintage wines. That is, wines that you really cannot buy in the liquor shop.
We have wines that are even 20 years old and still drinkable.
Over the years we have noted that some of the reds get a little lighter in colour and definitely smoother to drink if they have not weeped - and, the whites seem to get a little golden in colour.
Overall we have found the whites have aged better than the reds.
It is not uncommon to have a big white develop beautiful butter like qualities with age.
We recall certain wines we found difficult to drink when young and after 10 years or so in the bottle they
mellowed and achieved the most pleasant qualities.
Some wines have too much wood flavour such as Grange Hermitage.Time is important to enable the tannins to soften a little and enable the wine fruit to come to the front.
The reds we have that are highly wooded have certainly improved with age.
We also have some heavy wooded whites that are now drinking superb.
Having now the ability to sell more wines- because of our new license, we have decided to sell some on Ebay.
Unfortunately we need to offer only a PickUp situation for we do not have the time to package and post as well as the fact that the price of a bottle of wine would most times if posted be higher than its value.
We assume that some of our ebay customers could bid for wines and pick them up on their next visit.
