Delightful Art Deco print crinoline lady Shabby unusual

Absolutely delightful! An Art Deco take on a Romantic's take on a courting scene of an earlier age! While the characters are dressed in the fashion of say, the mid-19C, the concept and flavour of the execution of the work by the artist is very 1920's or thereabouts!

You have a coy lady dressed in a rather short crinoline with ruffled skirts and lacy pantalettes. She has a little mop cap in lace over her chestnut curls and is busily fanning herself to control her blushes! In close attendance is a gentleman in frockcoat and purple breeches. He's bewigged and paying court to the lady. The shape of the candles above them and of the print on the wallpaper is very Art Deco! It's just the most gorgeous thing!

The print has the signature C. T. Shand (I think it's a T) on the bottom right corner. Directly under the print is its title...The Introduction.

It's possible that it's been hand-tinted. I can't tell for sure but the thought has crossed my mind while examining it. In any case, the tinting is very delicate and suits the subject matter perfectly.

The picture is framed in a thin timber painted black. The frame is in good aged condition with a bump or two here and there but no splintered bits or splits and the corners still hold together tightly.

It's under glass and the glass is in fine form too.

The backside needs some attention. The backing brown paper is tattered and almost separate from the print. It has an old sticker for a shop long gone from Rundle Street Adelaide. Removing the paper and replacing it gives you a great opportunity to remove the whole print, clean the glass from the other side, dust every thing carefully and then, in putting it all back and securing it with an acid free backing, not only are you tidying it up but you are extending the life of the whole thing.

The picture measures 9.5 inches by 11.5 inches and is a must-have in any crinoline lady collection, Art Deco room or simply, because you love the chic in shabby!
