This sale is for a superb quality hardback FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION entitled “Memoirs of My Life,” by Edward Gibbon, edited and with an introduction by Betty Radice, with TWENTY wonderful illustrations, including a frontispiece of Edward Gibbon and with pictorial endpapers.

It was published by The Folio Society, of London, in MCMXCI, and is the 1991 FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION.

Edward Gibbon (1737-1794), was an English historian and Member of Parliament.  His most famous work “The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” was published in six volumes between 1776 and 1788.  In this fascinating book the author relates a sincere and simple narrative of his own life.

The book measures 10 inches x 6.5 inches (a little bigger in its slipcase).

The 247 pages are nice and neat.  The binding is very good, with no loose or missing pages.

There are NO inscriptions and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book.

The original green and gilt cloth hardback cover is in very good clean condition.  The slipcase is also very good for its age, with minor wear and is clean.  The gold on the front board and spine is very good. 

A wonderful quality FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION in very good order.
