I try to always keep postage costs to a minimum.     I always combine postage where possible.        I prefer buyers to use bank deposit which IS totally safe and trackable and offers both the buyer and seller protection as proof of receipt or issue of payment can be produced.      In over 800 transactions both as a buyer and seller, I have NEVER had anything not get to its buyer.        The greatest majority of transactions I have done have been with bank deposit and I generally use paypal only for international sales and purchases.      As a seller, paypal offer me no protection and I have to pay for the service and they also charge a percentage fee of the postage cost too so therefore, postage has to unfortunately go up a little to cover these higher costs.      I will still keep it as low as possible but I do have to take into consideration petrol to get it all to the post office.
